How do I get rid of the map on my “contact us” page? It’s unnecessary.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Howdy,

I’m happy to help. I suspect the map is being displayed via a text widget in your footer. Navigate to:

    Appearance > Widgets

Check your widgetized areas for this text widget.

I’m with jami0821 on this . You can Remove the widget from your sidebar https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/contact-info/ and use a text widget for the text only https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/

This was not helpful. It seems to tell me how to add widgets when I want to remove the Google map. Also, you assume that everyone understands what all the WordPress jargon means and I,for one, don’t.

I really need a person to walk me through removing the Google map. [phone number removed by staff]

Thank you Jam. Your info was more helpful because you had the word “footer” in your response. Then I knew where to look and finally found a little box that was checked to show the map. I unchecked it.

You both know WordPress backwards and forwards & I and many other people don’t. Go through each step and don’t assume that everyone knows what you’re talking about and can figure out what to do.

For example, I read the description for the Akimet widget but I don’t know how to use it, what to do about it or anything about it other than the description.

The Google map is being displayed in the Contact Info widget.

Really great point about adding more details to our responses. Thanks a ton for the feedback and also for letting us know you were able to locate the map. I’ll be sure to keep refining my responses so that I’m clearer. :)

As for Akismet, it’s a feature that will identify spam comments on your site and quarantine them. It will help save you quite a bit of time having to moderate comments from unsavory characters.

I was teacher for many, many years and learned early that directions need to be sequential and short but have enough of the pertinent info to get the task done.
Where does Askimet quarantine them and do I have to do anything about them such as delete them?

  • Unknown's avatar

Within your WordPress admin area, you can view your Akismet stats by navigating to:

    Dashboard > Akistmet Stats

Akisment will take care of the removal for you.

All of your comments will be located under the “Comments” menu.

If you noticed the Akismet Widget under “Appearance > Widgets”, I just wanted to mention that it’s not required to use it.

The purpose of that widget is to display the number of spam comments the system has caught for your visitors to see. Kind of like the way a pilot paints confirmed hits on their airplane. :)

For example, I read the description for the Akimet widget but I don’t know how to use it, what to do about it or anything about it other than the description.

What more is there to know?

The Akismet Widget will display the number of spam comments caught over the life of your blog. From:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/akismet-widget/

Using my reading comprehension skills I ascertain that it is merely a bragging widget. That means is not a necessary inclusion in any sidebar or footer area for widgets. Hence we each use our discretion when deciding whether to enable and display it one our blogs or not.

I really need a person to walk me through removing the Google map
    phone number

There is not phone support here. If you cannot open the Contact info widget that you choose to add to your footer and proceed to read what the configuration options are such as: Address – Enter your full address so Google Maps can find it and checkmark the “Show map” option depending on your preference…. and proceed from there that is unfortunate.

I have another issue that’s making me crazy and taking so much time!
I created new menu items and new pages for those items but can’t figure out how to make the page active and appear when selected from the menu bar.

My blog is http://www.tobeannouncedgiftbaskets.wordpress.com. I have new menu options for Corporate All Occasion cards, tech Gifts and Tetsimonials. What do I have to do to marry the menu options to the page names?

There are many common errors, misunderstandings and misconceptions when creating custom menus and there are some tweaks you can use to improve your custom menu as well. Here is more information:

    Hi Gail,

Check out this quick screencast I made showing how to drag menu items in the order you’d like. When they’re dragged underneath a parent menu item, they should display as a dropdown on your site.

    http://d.pr/v/4Zdm

Don’t forget to save the menu too.

    Hi

I had already created new menu items and put them in the order I wanted. I checked the box “automatically add new top level pages …”
I published all but one of the new menu category/page ) haven’t done a new blog post yet.
The new menu items still won’t open in the pages of the same names. When I expand the menu items they all have the correct navigation labels.

I am at a loss as to what to do next. HELP!!!!!!
And in you video – what are sub items? Do I need to give a menu item a title attribute? And what is that?

And if I cut and paste some text that doesn’t have any space between the lines, WP re-arranges it. How do I change the line spacing/ It seems that I have to type to the end of a line and only then will it not skip 2 line spaces.

WordPress is not intuitive and I’m finding it very difficult to do what should be simple tasks and it’s taken me 3 days to get nowhere.
