How do I get the Classic Editor back? Block Editor is not as functional for me.
-
On my old blog, I can still use the Classic Editor, but recently I started a more specialized blog, and there is no option to revert from the Block Editor to the Classic. When I look this up on the internet, I keep finding things that say I need to use a plug-in for the Classic Editor. However, I cannot use plug-ins because I only have a free WordPress.com account. Apparently I have to pay to upgrade to an account that allows plug-ins. I’m not a business of any sort. Just writing for fun. I can’t afford a paid account and have no use for one. Is there no other way to get the Classic Editor back?
One thing that frustrates me in the Block Editor is when I want to add tags, it doesn’t show me a list of all the tags I’ve already created so I can pick from them. That’s just one thing, though. Another thing is the way I can’t highlight and copy more than one paragraph at a time if I want to do some rearranging. There are other issues, but I can’t remember them off the top of my head. I constantly run into problems, and hence I only post on that blog rarely and go back to my old one.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Any WordPress.com site should be able to switch between the Block Editor and the Classic Editor. When you are editing a post click on the three dots top right and scroll down to “switch to classic editor”.

@healingsites This is the support forum for free sites hosted at WordPress.com. If your site is hosted elsewhere and using the WordPress.org software then things will work differently. You’ll need to install the Classic editor plugin.

Still not working. Switches to classic until I start typing, then the blocks return. Blocks don’t work for my blog people. Can I revert to an older version where this isn’t an issue?

Very annoying, this hiding of the Classic Editor! And it seems you have to pay extra (for Business service) to get the plug-in necessary to get back to the decent editor? Very annoying!

Oh, I found another way. Create some ersatz post with the Gutenberg thing, save it, and then, when re-opening the post, you can choose Classic Editor and starting working more seriously on your post. And this will save you any number of headaches!

wmeaton – I just want to clarify that you do not need to upgrade to a business plan to get the classic editor plugin. It is still built in to WordPress.com, it sounds like you have found it now.
If someone is using the WordPress installation (WordPress.org) they can install that classic editor plugin to use the classic dashboard. It is free.
