How do i get the name to revert for a replacement media file?

  When replacing a file with the same name the media panel attaches a 1, 2 etc even though i have permanently deleted the original tagging that extra number means i have to update the custom html code that refers to that image if i want to update it.

  I’m afraid you’re stuck with this. It’s a WP.com quirk and there is no workaround.
