How do I get the twitter tweet button, facebook button, follow button and invita

  • Unknown's avatar

My tweet button and facebook buttons are not on my home page. I also want the follow buttons and an invitation to have people subscribe to follow via emails on the home page as well as all other static pages and posts however it is not on my home page and I’ve done everything I’m supposed to do to make it happen i.e. dragging from “available” to enabled and choosing for it to appear on home page. Also, I’d like to have a friend of mine create a splash page for the home page that comes up first before people can see the content, inviting them to follow via email updates. Can my page support such a splash page?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

    Please see below:

My tweet button and facebook buttons are not on my home page.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the sharing buttons can be enabled on the front of the Expound theme.

I also want the follow buttons and an invitation to have people subscribe to follow via emails on the home page as well as all other static pages and posts however it is not on my home page

The Follow blog widget and Facebook widget that you have setup here:

    https://myinterracialfamily.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php

Will show up on single post pages and individual pages. However, they will not show up on the default home page of the Expound theme since that home page does not support sidebar widgets.

Also, I’d like to have a friend of mine create a splash page for the home page that comes up first before people can see the content, inviting them to follow via email updates. Can my page support such a splash page?

I believe you’re looking for a static home page. You can create one of those following the instructions here:

    Set the Homepage

On that page, you can leave a little blurb about what the site is about and readers can use the sidebar widget to subscribe to your blog. Is that what you’re looking for?

Jeremy thank you for your answers but there you are misunderstanding my question and the reason I asked it for each of my websites in two different support requests. I asked about a splash page on two different requests because I have two blog sites with two different themes and I want to know if I can have a splash page for each of them. I have a static page already for Mixeddiversityreads.wordpress.com and I don’t choose to have a static home page for myinterracialfamily.wordpress.com unless it proves to be necessary. When I ask about a splash page I am speaking of a page that pops up whenever anyone lands on the site and invites people to sign up to follow the sites blog by email.

I may not be doing a great job of explaining what I want. Here is Wikipedia’s description of the type of splash page I want. Can WordPress.com suport this type of pop-up Splash page that is distinct from the page the visitor is seeking? Thank you in advance for considering all that I’m telling/asking you and helping me with your answer.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Splash_screen
On the Web, a splash screen or splash page is a page of a web site that acts as a front page prior to displaying the home page. Designers may use splash pages:

to direct users to the appropriate website for their country or language preference
to direct users to a low-bandwidth site or one more accessible to disabled users
as an additional form of advertising
to restrict access to content such as pornography, alcohol advertising or sales, or gambling
as an aesthetic complement to the main page
To grab someone’s attention to take them to a page with more details usually for a product that they are selling.

    Hi!

I’m sorry I misunderstood your request! I can answer for both sites here though.

When I ask about a splash page I am speaking of a page that pops up whenever anyone lands on the site and invites people to sign up to follow the sites blog by email.

That isn’t possible at WordPress.com. Normally, that requires the activation of a plugin or adding some additional code. You can read more about plugins at WordPress.com here:

    Plugins

If you would like to have a splash page, you may want to consider moving to a self-hosted site using WordPress.org software. There, you have complete control over your site and could add a splash page. You can read more about the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

Let me know if you have any additional questions!

Jeremy, thank you for your answer. Of course I am quite disappointed that wordpress.com can not support what I need but I do have a question. As I look at the plugins supported by wordpress.com and my sites, I don’t see a function for getting people to follow the blog through email updates. Is there that function where people who are not wordpress bloggers can sign up to get the blog posts emailed to them? If so how do I put it on my blogs?

    Hi!

The easiest way to achieve this would be through the use of the Follow Blog widget explained here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/

WordPress.com users will just see a “Follow” button while logged in. Non-WordPress.com users will see a field for their email address.
