How do I get the widgets that display on my home page also to display

How do I get the widgets on my sidebar to display on more than just the home page?

    Hi there,

You can modify what pages your widgets appear on my changing their visibility settings. We have a help article which explains it right here:

    Widgets

I checked the link and still don’t understand. I want all of my widgets to display on all of my pages. I am the only author. I have tried different combos on the drop down menus with no success. Can you help?

    Hi there,

The right setting to make your widget display on all pages is to set Show if and then leave the select window to “Select” and the next drop down to blank.

I’ve gone ahead and set all of your widgets appropriately and they are all showing correctly!

Hi, thanks for your help. I just looked and I don’t see the widgets on any other page other than the home page. Do I need to do something?? I am aparently ignorant and can’t figure it out! ;-( I am trying though!

I apologize, I didn’t realize you were talking specifically about the pages as opposed to posts.

The theme you’ve chosen, Watson, does not display widgets on pages. You can see for yourself on their demo page right here:

    https://watsondemo.wordpress.com/styling/

    I apologize for the confusion!

I hate that! ;-( That means I have to buy another Theme to make that possible?

Thank you for all of your help!

Keep in mind that you don’t necessarily have to purchase one! We have quite a few free themes that look amazing! Just browse around our theme page at:

    http://theme.wordpress.com

And see if any of them strike your fancy! And remember, that just because they may not look exactly how you want now, you can always modify them a bit to perfect them. We actually just recently had a WordPress.com Blog post about just that! You can read all about it right here:

Thanks! I just hate I have already spent $$ on Watson. If I choose a free one and decide to go back to the Watson theme, will I have to buy it again?? Thanks so much for your help.. I am a newbie but I need my website to work for me and as it is, it is not!

    Heya,

No, once you’ve paid for a theme, it is yours as long as you keep this particular blog with WordPress.com! You will not need to pay for it again. Feel free to try other themes out and find the one that works for you.

Also keep in mind that our themes are refundable in the first 30 days after purchase. So if you choose to purchase another theme to try it out and you find you don’t like it, let us know as quickly as you can and we can cancel and refund it to you. Unfortunately the Watson theme was purchase almost two months ago, so it isn’t eligible for a refund, but it’s something to keep in mind for the future!

Thank you so much! I am looking through the free ones first. Do you have any pointers to which theme is best for me (I don’t think I will ever get through them). I post recipe so it is important that you can view multiple post (and pictures of the recipe in the post) from the home page like the Watson Theme allows. So what I am missing is to be able to view my widgets when one clicks on each post. Any ideas??

    Hi there,

You’re not wrong, we definitely do have quite a few themes from which to choose!

As far as what you listed, I think that our in-house theme “Twenty Twelve” has everything you could desire and is very customizable. I believe that “Twenty Eleven” would work for you as well!

  • Unknown's avatar

I checked out those two, thanks. The problem with those are that the full post are listed on the home page, one behind the other vs. just showing an image and brief description that that of watson. Sorry, I am sure that I am not using the right terms. Like this one: http://satisfyingeats.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php?theme=pub%2Fsuburbia

This one would work but can the widgets display on home page too. This one only shows them on the pages. Is this correct??

Thanks again. I need to change my theme asap because people are clicking on a link to a recipe and then do not look at others. I need the widgets to show on all pages so they can see most popular post and be able to search for another recipe from the recipe page they are on.

I apologize, I didn’t realize that you were looking for a theme that only showed previews of articles on the home page! Suburbia is a great theme for that, and it looks like you’ve found how to control what pages widgets are visible on.

Is everything working how you want it to?

I had surburbia then I realized that the widgets don’t show on the home page. Weird. ALso when I am on an individual page, there are “widgets” at the top that I don’t want. I wish I knew more about this stuff. Any other thougths on suburbia.

    Thank you again!

    Heya,

I just went to your page and I didn’t see any widgets in the top bar or any in the sidebar either (though now I want some chocolate frosting. Thanks for that! ;) ).

Let me know if you’re still having troubles.

Also, if you’re still unsure of your theme and want to look through others, we do have a way of searching for the right them for you by feature. If you go in your Dashboard to the Appearance >> Themes page, and on the right hand side there is a link for Feature Filter. You can select which theme features you want to specifically look for.

;-) Glad you enjoyed the pics! Take another look. I have a few widgets on home page. Search, Most popular blog post, advertisement for Tropical Tradition.

I guess my problem when I am looking for features is that I don’t know what they are called. Will you take another look and see if you see the widgets I mentioned.

    Thanks so much!

I really do like surburbia. Wish I could upload the picture I have in my header to that one if I could make surburbia work with the widgets.

  • Unknown's avatar

Unfortunately the custom header for Suburbia is only the one in the corner and not one which goes across the entire page.

In regard to your other message, I’m not sure what you’re asking about. Each widget can be used on any theme as long as there is a space for widgets (ie; a sidebar, a footer, or space in a header for widgets).
