How do I get the WordPress login to work on other sites?
-
I have had problems logging in to WordPress before. My loggin user name is ginnyinco. I have tried several times to log in to AlanColmes Liberal Land using WordPress and was always informed the username was wrong. (I tried all the variations I have used.) I got an email to reset the password which indicated the username is ginnyinco and that is shown on the right side of the black bar here.
I reset the old password to a stronger one, returned to Colmes’ login and was again told the user name is wrong. I tried the others again, still won’t register.I can get into WordPress.com with the username and new password.

What’s the blog URL/address of AlanColmes Liberal Land?
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.

When the login site linked from colmes offered a chance to reset my password, the email that I received was from this (.com) site. It allowed me to get in and reset the password using ginnyinco. It is still allowing me to login with that user name and the new password. I just tried again at colmes’ site and got the same message that the username was wrong and a link to retrieve the password. The same link I used yesterday to reset the one here.
WordPress .org doesn’t seem to use a log in for the site. When I wrote for a blog 4-6 years ago and used that program, I did have a login id and password – which I had trouble with several times.

This us a self-hosted WordPress.org blog, so it’s entirely separate from WordPress.com.
In this case, you’ll need to register for an account on the site itself.

macmanx, Really? The url address is wordpress.com and the banner at the top of the page is WordPress.com. Then there is the line in the upper left side of the page that says: WorldPress.com Forums.
Which site do I need to register on? I’m already registered on WP.com definitely. The WP.org may still be in the system but I don’t need that to register for the colmes site. The link to register on colmes site is to WP.com. or a social media site (FB etc.). (It would not make sense for the colmes site to link to the WP.org site.) I am not interested in using the FB log in and don’t understand why the WP.com login will not work as it is supposed to. I have put a comment on Colmes’ FB page. No help, just use FB to register.
Whatever you are using for happiness may not be doing your reading comprehension much good.

Well, this is WordPress.com here of course, but http://www.alan.com/ is a self-hosted WordPress.org blog. It’s entirely separate from here.
If you want to login to http://www.alan.com/ you need to register specifically for an account on that site via the “Not registered? Register now” link right on the front page.

I know, it takes 15 repetitions for people to learn things. So here is # 4. I have tried numerous times to register at Colmes’ site by hitting the Register now link. (I have done this too many times to count at various sites, news orgs, etc.) When you hit the link, you can register using WordPress or one of many social media sites. I prefer to use WP. When I enter the username and password, it tells me the username is wrong. The only option is to ask for password help. When I did that, I got an email from WordPress.com which had my user name and a link to reset the password. As I said, I did do that to update it to a stronger one. I have since tried at least three times (different days, logging out completely, etc.) to use the WP.com login at the ‘Register now’ link at Colmes’ site. Since the email response for help is coming from WP.com, I am not sure whether this is an error from Colmes’ site or WP.
I have forgotten where else I tried to use the WP link to register and had the same problem. I do think it has happened once before at a different site.

Ah, I see the option now.
They’re using OpenID to login via other social networks. In order to use that in this case, you need to have a public blog registered at ginnyinco.wordpress.com.
