How do I get Typekit fonts to display on my blog?
-
I’m using the Pilcrow theme, which (I gather) is supposed to allow for easy connecting to the TypeKit fonts. However, the tutorial/support documents seem to indicate that I should get a pop-up window from TypeKit asking me to identify which WordPress theme I’m using, and I can’t see any such message. Are the tutorials/support documents outdated, or is there some other reason that my TypeKit selections aren’t showing up on the blog?
(Note: the little TypeKit logo appears in the corner of the blog, and links to the fonts that I’ve chosen, so I know TypeKit is connected to the blog on some level. However, all of my headings and text remain in the default fonts for the theme.)
Thanks…

You can go to the Typekit homepage, log in, then click the green ‘Launch Kit Editor’ in the top right corner of the screen.
This will give you a pop-up window that lets you both indicate the theme you are using on WordPress.com and choose the page elements you want the fonts applied to.
Also note that you won’t see any changes for the fonts until you click the big green Publish button, and it sometimes takes a few minutes for your blog to show the changes.

I’ve done all of that, except that I don’t see anywhere to indicate the theme I’m using. The left panel of the pop-up Editor window has Selectors, Language Support, Weights and Styles, and CSS Stack submenus; the top bar has Embed Code and Kit Settings options, and the main body of the window has a welcome message plus the two fonts I’ve picked. None of the menus/options seems to show a theme selection field…?

If you haven’t gotten wind of it yet, you might be interested in learning that just this week, we’ve launched a new Custom Design upgrade that makes managing your TypeKit fonts dead simple. Might be worth a look if you’re still experiencing trouble with the old method of managing fonts.

Yes, I did see that; however, I’m not interested in paying $30/year for functionality that is supposed to be free. Besides, if it’s not working now with the existing system, is there any guarantee that the new upgrade will work?
All I want is to be able to display the fonts that I’ve selected. I specifically chose a theme that’s supposed to provide seamless integration. Why is it not working?

You should see a ‘Page Elements’ section in the Editor (above the Selectors section) – are you not seeing it? The Page Elements part is the section where you would define which bits of your blog use the fonts you have chosen. If nothing in that section is selected (or it isn’t showing up for you), that would be the reason the fonts are being shown on your blog.
If you can’t see this section, let us know – we’ll need to troubleshoot as to why that isn’t showing up for you.
