How do I get your system to behave properly when it posts?

  • Unknown's avatar

My latest blog post on Christian Counselor Pastor is a mess when I posted it on the site. It deleted appropriate space between paragraphs and other commands that were properly shown on the draft. It seems like there’s a software issue on your end, and I would appreciate it if you fixed it so the post can appear correctly.

    Hi there!

Can you provide a few additional details so I can help troubleshoot this?

First, can you let me know if you typed up the post within WordPress.com or if you typed it up elsewhere and copy/pasted the content?

Second, can you let me know if you created the post within the Visual Editor or the Text Editor? Here’s two screenshots that will help you decide:

    Text Editor – https://cloudup.com/cLfiGVFqcMX

    I appreciate the additional info!

    Hi Jeremy,
Yes, I typed the post using WordPress add a post function as I usually do. My page has been set on text editor, since I don’t typically use graphics.

As indicated, the system showed the correct spacing between paragraphs on the draft, but when it went to post, it was a mess! If you go to the post, you will see that there is no paragraph or line spacing at all on the blog.

Thanks for your help. It’s appreciated. Oh, one more thing. I have consistently used Mozilla to create and post on the blogs.

    Blessings,
    Pastor Sharon Billington

    Hi!

Thanks for providing the additional details. The reason I ask is that the Text Editor has some miscellaneous HTML. If you go to edit the post in the Text Editor now, you’ll see the following:

    <div class="passage-resources"></div>
<div class="passage-resources">Wow.  When you read the above passage, you can see that this little one's dad, like us, did have belief, but he realized his limitations.  He knew he had some unbelief in him as well, and he didn't want anything to hinder his son's deliverance.  In essence, he asked  Jesus to remove any barriers in himelf that could be a barrier to having his son restored to a normal life.  He recognized that such spiritual purity or ability was beyond him, and so he asked the Lord for help.</div>
    <div class="passage-resources"></div>
    <div class="passage-resources"></div>
    <div class="passage-resources"></div>

Those miscellaneous classes are probably causing the issue. If you remove all of them and just leave the text, this should be fixed.

The reason I asked about copying and pasting was because this normally happens if you copy and paste content from elsewhere.

    Hi again,
The miscellaneous classes did not show up on the draft previously, and I will check again to see if they do appear and will delete them if they do. I must say that I don’t understand this because this has never happened before quite this way. I have previously experienced issues with the system in text mode. Would you suggest, then, that I use visual mode even thogh I don’t use graphics?

Thanks for your input. I’ll get back to you soon.

    Blessings,
    Pastor Sharon

    Hi Jeremy,

Problem fixed! Here’s what happened. First, somehow I was in visual instead of text mode. When I clicked into text mode, I saw what you were referring to.

Those miscellaneous classes were embedded in the text, so as soon as I separated them from the text, I was able to do what the post needed and properly spaced the lines. I separated the miscellaneous classes from the text by making sure that only blog content appeared on lines. Hope that’s clear for you and anyone else that is reading and my experience coupled with your input can help.

Again, thanks so much for setting things right. I am now a happy blogger once again.

    Blessings,
    Pastor Sharon

One more thing: yes, I did cut and paste the scriptures from an outside site. Since I have done this numerous times before without having this kind of disastrous result, I truly wonder why this happened this time.

Well, that’s the whole experience. Thanks again for your help.

    Blessings,
    Pastor Sharon

Wonderful! I’m glad that worked out. You can definitely paste from outside sources. However, if you do, I recommend pasting as plain text as described here:

    Microsoft Word

That will remove all miscellaneous div tags and make sure your post appears as you typed it out!

Thanks, Jeremey. I will sure keep that in mind to avoid future issues. As you may have suspected, my tech skills are as close to nonexistent as they can get, so I appreciate the help.

    Blessings,
    Pastor Sharon
