How do I get Youtub to embed properly and why can't I install custom widgets?

I am trying to embed a youtube videos into my posts and I copy the URL but it only shows up as a link in the post and not embedded… what am I doing wrong? Also I see other people able to download custom widgets but I seem to not have this option. Is this a downside to the free version as opposed to the premium?
