How do I hide a page from the top menu without creating a custom menu
-
I like the automatic Home page that is in my main menu with the little house icon right next to it but I still want to hide pages from the main navigation menu. So how do I hide a page without creating a custom menu (which would get rid of the house icon)?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can choose exactly which Pages to include in any custom menu and conversely which ones not to include.
Go to https://http://mekaja.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php
Also note this setting on the bottom right hand corner that you can enable or disable:
Menu Settings
Auto add pages __ Automatically add new top-level pages to this menu -

Yes I know, but if I create a custom menu, I will no longer have the automatic Home page button included. I will have to create a new Home page and put that one in the menu and it will be missing the nice little house icon that is included with the automatic Home page button. I still want that nice looking house icon included but I also want to hide pages. That is the question I’m asking.

Hi @kennethjones1991 — I’ve just tested this to verify. As long as your custom menu includes a link to the home page, it will still work. Let us know if you need more help.

Customizing a menu is done easy and can always incorporate the home button.
Now The deal here is that I done so through the dashboard. Just check the boxes of pages on the left you want to show in your customized menu and your done.
You can switch them around in any order. on the rightAgain this is done through the dashboard. I am not sure how this works when on a tablet.
Lastly There is however one thing that can stand in the way and that be the theme if I am not mistaken. Not all grant the option of a custom menu. -

Wrong. The menu location can vary depending on your theme but we can have custom menus regardless of the theme being used.
Will you kindly avoid posting into threads where Staff are already providing support in the future? I’m asking because I’ve been here for over 9 years and I can guarantee that doing so can cause unnecessary confusion.

@supernovia
kennethjones1991 concern is that he wants only the Home page with the ” nice little house icon” in the menu and no other pages. -
@timethief, if that’s the case, he would just create a custom menu with a link to the home page and no other pages. Or he’d be welcome to add other pages if he likes.
As long as the “Home” page links to “/” it will show the house icon.

@rantingcrow
Thanks so much for your kind cooperation. When bloggers post here they are frequently frustrated, and they are, of course, seeking accurate answers delivered as quickly as possible as these are support forums and not discussion forums or chatrooms. When there are multiple helpers in any thread and Staff are already posting into the thread the original blogger who posted can become unnecessarily confused and that can lead to an increase in their frustration level.No response required. Best wishes.

No I do want more than just the Home page in the menu, but every time I’ve ever created my own custom Home page and added it to the menu it doesn’t include the “nice little house icon”, just the word “Home”.
But I tried what supernovia said and it worked. Thanks a lot for the help!
I would mark this resolved, because I can now do what I want, but the actual question wasn’t answered so I’m not sure what to do. Does anyone know what one would do in this situation?

Hooray! That’s good news. You can mark this thread resolved by entering the first post you made to create it.

To address the original question, if you don’t have a custom menu, the system will show all top level pages. There is no way to hide them without creating a custom menu.
But if you’re having any trouble creating a custom menu, we’re here to help.
Here are some tips:
