How do I hide my download site from search engines?
-
How do I hide my download site of my ebook from search engines? I don’t want google to direct me to the direct post where one can download my book, but force the reader to go through Paypal. Can I put something in the code to hide it?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy,
There isn’t a fool-proof way to hide material from a search engine on WordPress.com without hiding other material as well. Even if hidden from the search engines, someone could still pass to others the actual link to the file.
Another option is to use a service like e-junkie to handle the actual downloadable piece of the puzzle: http://www.e-junkie.com/
A service like that would handle the transaction and limit others from using the same link.
Please let me know if you have any questions or anything else we can do for you!

Okey, so how does E-junkie limit people from sharing the link? Want to know if I get my money worth…
Another reason why people find my download page is because there is a “enlargment glass” symbol on top of my page to search the website. How do I take it off?
thanks so much!
Anna

With e-junkie, first they create a very random address for each download that is tied to each purchase and can only be used in a limited fashion. Even if someone made the download link public, it wouldn’t be of much use.
Details about their file download setup can be found here: http://www.e-junkie.com/ej/help.file-downloads.htm
You can hide that search trigger at the top center of your page by adding the following to your custom CSS in Appearance->Custom Design->CSS
.triggers-wrapper { display: none; }That is not fool-proof as there are many other ways to search a site (including Google itself).
Cheers!

the coding to take away the enlargement glass doesn’t work. Is it supposed to look exactly like above with spaceing, next phrase etc? On a new line?
also, how do I take off the “mobile version” of the page, as it displays a drop down menu with all of my posts? (one of them Im trying to hide!)

Sorry, that was unclear. The code for taking the enlargement glass works, but messes up the rest of the design for my post on the website. It only works if I tick off “Dont use the themes original Css”.
Thank you…

I apologize. It should have been #triggers-wrapper instead of .trigger-wrapers.
I enabled the change, which looks correct testing on my browser. Can you confirm?
The mobile theme, that replaces your regular theme, can be disabled in the Appearance->Mobile page of your dashboard.
Cheers!
