I backed up my wp.org blog in sql.gz format. How do I export it to wp.com?

I only have it in sql.gz format. I don’t have many posts so it wouldn’t be a hassle to put in everything manually.

Here is the only way to do that here:

    Windows: install Xampp
    Mac: install Mamp
Linux: no idea but something will exist

    Install WP

Import your file into the database.

Change the ‘Home’ url in wp_options in the database

    Run WordPress

From that blog Tools > Export to get the file.

Sounds complex, it’s pretty straightforward and lots of guides exist.

    Mark,

Actually it got complex, because it seems like after I imported the file, the WP installation didn’t seem to understand that it was run on localhost, so it looked for the old adresses, which screwed everything up.
