How do I import blog data BACK TO a free blog AFTER domain expires??
-
I originally started my website / blog on wordpress.com a while back. then I transferred it to a .com domain running on WordPress platform that was arranged by a site designing firm that failed to tell me that the domain expires & needs to be re-registered. Well it expired in January. ( I cant afford to pay for a new domain registration. But when I can, the designer indicated he would still host it. )
Anyways…. I did set my free blog to “private” once the desiner imported data from my free blog to the .com domain- but all that data is still physically existing on those pages but just set to private. Also I still have access to all my pages, photos and blog posts, etc. via the WordPress mobile app for Android.
Because every blog article I posted since I started blog until the last IS available via the mobile WordPress app– as well as ALL of the changes that were made to the physical website pages, photo gallery, etc. when the designer transferred everything to the .com domain. I would like to keep everything that was changed and just basically transfer all content and blog posts from the expired .com domain back to the free wordpress blog, can this be done?My question is how do I import all of the data & content from the beginning of blog’s creation until now (blog posts, website pages, photos etc.) back onto the free wordpress blog including the stuff from the expired domain??

Hi there,
To import your site from its current host outside of WordPress.com back into your WordPress.com site you’ll need to export the content from the existing site with the expired domain. Some hosting companies will provide a temporary IP address or URL you can use without needing a domain name on the site.
Once the content has been exported you can Import it into WordPress.com
Here is how to export your site:

So do I reach out to the hosting company / designer firm that I used to ask them for the temporary IP address or URL to do this?. I would love for everything including the theme, to be transferred back from the expired domain back on to my free wordpress blog- and everything to look exactly the way it was before it expired. can this be done with the export / import you mentioned? -
Hi janinarivea,
You will want to reach out to the hosting company/design firm to see if they have a way for you to get your site’s data back.
As far as the same theme/look that will depend if the theme is available for WordPress.com. We do have over 350 themes available, however, if it was a custom built theme or your old site requires custom third-party plugins which can’t be used on WordPress.com for security reasons your site may look different.
To see which themes are available visit: https://wordpress.com/themes/
