You break up your XML files into smaller pieces using one of the splitter tools available, such as this one for Windows:

For Macs see https://github.com/suhastech/Wordpress-WXR-Splitter/ -
when i backed up the files they were save as .txt files in note pad.. What can i do to generate the WXR files for splitting or can it split the notepad files

Please upload your export file to a service like Dropbox so that I can access it, and I will attempt the import on my end.
Please also let me know what the address is for the destination blog so I can make sure to import it to the right place.

Thank you for your very helpful recommendation ladies. Unfortunately due to the sensitive nature of the journal blog, I was not able to upload to Dropbox and benefit from your assistance and further help.
I did however find an online converter that has assisted and I am currently awaiting details

I’m not sure if converting the GoDaddy Quick Blogcast file to XML will work. Just because a file is in the XML format does not mean it has the correct data to be read by our importer tool. You’re welcome to give it a try with the WordPress importer, but my guess is that if it was too large for our GoDaddy Quick Blogcast importer, it will still be too large for the WordPress one.
If that’s the case, I’d be more than happy to assist you, but I’d need the actual file to use for the import. I’m not sure why Dropbox wasn’t an option, but if you have another service you can use, let me know.
