How do I import from xanga?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m trying to import my blogs from Xanga and have run into an issue. After clicking the download files button on xanga, and receiving a zip file, I followed the instructions to import onto WordPress. Once I got to the choose file step of the import, I received a prompt that said the file I chose was not in xml format. I need help on how to trouble shoot.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When this happens, users seem to have luck if they try from a different browser or even just using the WordPress importer tool rather than the specific Xanga one.

Please give either/both of those a shot and let me know how it goes.

How do I get the WordPress importer tool?

I’ve gotten as far as the import saying “processing” and even received an email saying the import was complete. But, after browsing my blog there were no entries or archives from the import.

I did see this message after clicking Entries RSS:
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

Help! I really don’t want to lose all my posts from Xanga, I definitely had at least 7 years of entries all there :(

I can see some imports, but you’re right, nothing is appearing at stephanieenaje.wordpress.com.

Have you tried importing all of the files that were in your .zip folder from Xanga? Your posts will not show up until all files have been imported. You can use either the Xanga or the WordPress generic importer at https://stephanieenaje.wordpress.com/wp-admin/import.php

And whatever happens, as long as you hang on to your export file from Xanga, nothing is lost, as the import process does not modify the original file in any way. So even if your content isn’t showing up yet, you don’t need to worry that anything is lost.

Please try the import again and let me know how it goes.
