How do I include new links in my blogroll?
-
Hi, I’m a total beginner in WordPress, and I’m trying to include several links under my blogroll.
I’m using the Twenty Sixteen theme, and I don’t seem to be able to find a way to add or remove links to my blogroll. I’m only able to put the blogroll widget in my sidebar, but nothing more than that. I’ve tried searching for information on how to do this and I came across this link https://en.support.wordpress.com/blogroll/edit-a-blogroll-link/ but I can’t seem to be able to do as it says. Is adding and removing blogroll links a premium only feature? If so, is there any way I can include links in my sidebar with a free account?

I am in almost same exact situation, a beginner with a free account, and the theme I’m using is Responsive. I was able to add the “links” widget, which is what the support material says to do if for providing links to any blogs, not just WordPress, and other web content. The instructions seem geared to a premium account; they indicate a “links” menu, which does not appear in my dashboard. The customizer for the free plan provides widgets for both “links” and “blogs I follow” …but no way to customize them! My questions are the same as greatbiz4all’s!

Hi cubamlib,
I finally found the solution after experimenting around with the page. Under Configure -> People, click on the Add button, which will then lead you to the exact page from which you can modify the links in your blogroll.

You can create a Blogroll in your Dashboard http://en.support.wordpress.com/blogroll/add-a-blogroll-link/ and display it by installing the Links widget. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/links-widget/
Go to https://greatbiz4all.wordpress.com/wp-admin/link-manager.php
To add a new link use https://greatbiz4all.wordpress.com/wp-admin/link-add.php

Dear timethief –
Is there a way to change the title of the Links widget from “blogroll” to something else?
Also – thank you so much for the link to my customizer — I could not figure out how to get to the Dashboard — and still can’t! Other than going to this thread and clicking that handy link (thanks!) — How do I get to the Dashboard after I log into WordPress?
In other words, when I log in, I go to “My Site” — but I don’t see a link to Dashboard anywhere. That’s what was confusing me so much. The instructions for adding the blogroll said to go the “Links” menu — and the screenshot was not matching what I *thought* was the “Dashboard” — but was really “My Sites.”
So…how do I get to the Dashboard after logging in?
Many Thanks in Advance.

This is the Admin login link to the dashboard on every wordpress.com hosted blog
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
You have to change “NAME_OF_BLOG” to the correct one like this:

That is based on categories you assign. See here http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/links-widget/ and know that I never ever use a Links widget.
My Links to related sites that provide relevant information to my visitors are displayed on a static page. https://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/links/

Dear timethief, your blog is a great model — as well as a resource for all things WordPress. I have bookmarked it. Thank you for your generous responses — especially when you had already indicated on your blog that you would be reducing or ending your involvement in user forums. You exemplify the community spirit of the democratic web.
And greatbiz4all, I just checked your solution, clicking the “People” link in “My Sites” — and it leads to the Dashboard. Eureka! Thank you for this solution! Now why WP couldn’t have inserted a “Dashboard” link on My Sites, I don’t know.
Anyway, and I won’t be creating any more email on this thread :-)
Happy New Year to both of you helpful people. -
Happy New Year to you cubamlib and thanks so much for your kind words. I appreciate them.
