How do I insert a .pdf file image into a post?

    I’m trying to add a .pdf file to a new post using these steps: Click on Add Media button, download the .pdf image from my computer, add caption, click Insert into Post (the URL is already there and appears to be correct so I don’t change it). The post then shows the title of the file “Namaqua Wreck – 1889” underlined and in blue, but NOT the image. I save the page with no change to what is displayed. The Text tab shows the following

    Namaqua Wreck – 1889.

    I last inserted a .pdf file in March 2013 with no problems. I don’ want to do a workaround by photo’ing a printed copy of the .pdf image and using the resulting .jpg.

    The form for submitting the problem did NOT include the Text Tab code as I copied it. Let me try to put it between backtick characters <a href="http://quesnellpoolesouthafrica.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/namaqua-wreck-1889.pdf">Namaqua Wreck - 1889</a>.
