How do I insert Google's html on my site?

    I don’t use HTML with my site, but Google won’t verify my submission without having me upload this file.

    Thank you.

  • Hi there!

    You’ll want to paste this code in My Site(s) → Tools. Here you’ll find the full instructions:

    https://wordpress.com/support/site-verification-services/#google-search-console.

    I hope that helps but, if you have more doubts, let me know.

    Thanks for the reply. Unforunately, I am unable to access the Tools——at least, not the tools that lead to Marketing—->Traffic so obviously, I can’t find the site verification Services where I’m supposed to paste the code. When I go to “Tools” I get the option to edit. but when I click on that, I get nowhere. Are you sure I don’t have to have a site comprised of html?

    Anyway, could you please let me know how to access the proper “Tools” so that I can make the other connections.

    Thanks.

    Okay, I did manage to get where I was supposed to after finding the :”tools” button. I got down to Site Verification Services and was told to paste the code into the Google space. Is this what it is supposed to look like:

    <meta name=”google-site-verification” content=”google6f4da8a667bcd529.html />” />

    I know, it’s very confusing. lol

    Thanks again

  • Yep, just paste it like that and we’ll take care of the rest: https://wordpress.com/support/site-verification-services/

    Please let us know if you have any more questions!

    Here I am again. The problem I am having is putting HTML on my site. If the code has to be under the <head> tag, that means that if I paste it on my home page as it is (non HTML) I will be able to see the link and so will any visitors who happen to stumble onto my blog. This is likely a really stupid question, but quite frankly, I am hesitant to convert my pages using HTML, as I really don’t have the immense amount of time that would entail, so I need another option.

    Thank you.

  • As long as it is above the <body> section, it will not be visible. Give it a try and see.

    But you are still assuming that I need html in my file manager. If memory serves me correctly, html in the file manager goes something like this:

    <html>
    <head>
    <body>
    <title></title>
    <h1 align=center></h1 align=center>
    </html>
    </head>
    </body>

    As far as I can tell, there is no file manager as far as I can see–just *regular text*. And as you can also tell, converting a normally structured site like this one uses this regular text. Not what I have written above. If one wants a picture, one needs this code: <img_src></img src><p>

    The body of the html method looks like this:
    <b>In this post, I am going to deal with the subject of social media and its effect on young people. </b><p>

    The b stands for bold and the p ends the sentence.

    So it appears as though you are telling me that I have to find out where the file manager is and then convert my *ordinary, non-html* posts to html and as you can clearly see, the amount of work required is daunting. If this is what one has to do in order to get into the Google search engine, then it just isn’t worth the incredible amount of time required.

    Please explain how I can paste the code in my site without having to convert all my texts in all my posts to the time-consuming html. I keep asking that question.

    Thank you.

    Read the answer you got at https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/how-do-i-insert-googles-html-on-my-site/#post-3864155. Just follow the instructions as given – https://wordpress.com/support/site-verification-services/#google-search-console – and everything will be alright. You don’t need to put html in your site, you don’t need a File manager, you don’t need to convert you posts and pages. By the way: all posts and pages, in fact every website, is in html otherwise it wouldn’t be visible in a browser.

    Thank you for all of your help and I apologise for being clueless. lol. And as far as html goes, I would have used it with a file manager, as it was the only method of creating those now-defunct Geocities do-it-yourself websites. I still remember how to use it. I figured that professional sites use html, but I’m willing to bet that they use an automatic generator. Somehow I can’t picture owners of small business sites taking the time and effort to enter it manually. At least, not the ones I’m familiar with. In this new millennium, website building has become much easier, but if the truth be known, one has a lot more control of the process of creating pages with html.

    Have a great weekend.

    Sorry that I keep inundating you all with this Google verification thing. I know how to cut and paste the code, per your tireless help, but when I try to edit my home page to insert the code I get this mess:

    https://wordpress.com/page/acrazyoldbatwithanattitude.wordpress.com/5

    As you can see, I can’t do anything with it and when I click on “view the autosave” I get the page in HTML, but not a useful one with a <head> and <body>, just a lot of weird stuff. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I’m not sure how or why this happened. But I did do everything you told me to in order to get the code on my home page. I just need a proper editing page.

    Thank you yet again.

    Again, you must put code in your site! Just follow and only follow the instructions as given at https://wordpress.com/support/site-verification-services/#google-search-console

  • Unknown's avatar

    Correction: you mustn’t put code in your site!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Where do I put it then? I was told to paste it on my home page. I’m confused—which happens a lot. lol

  • Unknown's avatar

    And again, just follow the instructions as given at https://wordpress.com/support/site-verification-services/#google-search-console.
    These instructions are the only valid way to get that code connected to your site !!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Will do. I thought that the code had to go on the home page and there was awhile there when I thought I’d have to use HTML on my site until I was told otherwise. I must apologise to all of you for monopolising your time as I have for days on end and you have all been extremely patient and that goes a long way in my book. Thank you again. I have a feeling that I won’t need to ask any more questions, as you have adequately answered all of mine.
