How do I install premium theme?

    Hi everyone,

I’m wondering if someone can help clarify this for me and please excuse how basic this question is.

I’m working with a friend to update his website and install a new premium theme. His website is http://www.rafaelrosamusic.com. I went in to try to upgrade the theme and I do not have the option to do so. There’s no store tab either. He currently is hosted on and has his domain through godaddy. Does this mean his site is currently a wordpress.org site?

    Here’s my question:
Is it possible to change his page over to a wordpress.com blog? And if so, is there an article that can explain to me how to do that? I basically just want to be able to upload the Promenade theme to his website but I just don’t see how to do that at the moment.

Any advice would be super helpful. Thank you so much!

  • Yes, his page is a WordPress.org site. For help with that site you need to post in the WordPress.org forums, here: http://wordpress.org/support/ If he’d prefer to stay on WordPress.org you can search for a suitable theme here: https://wordpress.org/themes/

While it is possible for him to switch over to WordPress.com, first keep the following in mind: If he changes to WordPress.com he won’t be able to install ANY plugins to his site. He will also be bound by the WordPress.com Terms of Service, including the ban on advertising. Also see: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Furthermore, I notice he has both video and audio files uploaded to that site. To do that on WordPress.com he’ll need to buy the premium upgrade bundle at US$99 a year. http://store.wordpress.com/plans/

If he’s happy with that, you can see instructions on moving from WP.org to WP.com here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-from-wordpress-org

Note that he won’t be able to transfer his domain to WordPress.com, but he can keep it with his current registrar and then buy the domain mapping upgrade to connect that domain to his WordPress.com site. If he buys the premium bundle the domain mapping is already included with that. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/ Then, once he’s made the switch and is sure all his content is in his WordPress.com site, he can cancel his hosting account with GoDaddy, leaving only the domain itself with them.
