How do I invite contributors who already have wordpress accounts?
-
I have invited two users to contribute that already have a wordpress blog and,or website. they are not able to accept my invitation because it keeps sending them to their own page or it tells them that they have to create a new account. Is there some way around this? Or can I assign them a user name and password without them accepting the invite?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey there Lisa!
You should be able to add other WordPress.com users, regardless of whether they have their own sites, or not.
Please confirm that you were following the process as listed here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/Could you send an invitation to me? WordPress.com user name: thatrobyn. I can take a look at the way the invitation is functioning.
I’m wondering if they’re looking in the correct place for your blog. Can you make certain that when the visit http://wordpress.com, they are clicking on the My Blogs link in the upper, left side of their toolbar?
In your site’s Dashboard, I do see that many contributors are pending acceptance of your invitation. If you let me know the users’ names who are having the trouble, I can look further into the issue for you.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

am I supposed to be sending an invitation to their wordpress user name and not their email address? possibly that is the problem? the two that I am specifically having trouble with is
(email visible only to moderators and staff)
and
(email visible only to moderators and staff)
they both have their own wordpress sites and when they go to accept the invitation, it wants them to set up a new site instead of simply accept my invitation to contribute. I know this because I sent one to my ministry address to see what they were talking about and it also will not let me accept the invitation….that one is
(email visible only to moderators and staff)
If you have some suggestions that would be great! -
Hi Lisa!
Sending the invitation to their user name, rather than their email address may do the trick. If you’d like to test this out with me, before you attempt it with your prospective contributors, please do!
You can send an invitation to me, to me user name: thatrobyn.
I’ll keep an eye out for that email, and follow the procedure to confirm it works well. Then I’ll get right back in touch with you!
Thanks so much!

Hey there!
I got your invitation, accepted it, and was immediately granted access to your site’s Dashboard.
Terrific…let’s try that with your contributors. Since they’re already WordPress.com users, I expect the same result.
Let me know how it goes! Oh, and feel free to delete me from your site, unless now you expect me to start writing articles ;)
Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much!

lol, well we can always use encouragement on being happy, and since you are the happiness engineer….
Thank you so much for all of your help! I have sent out email to the people that I was having trouble with and hopefully we can get this settled soon! Have a great day! -

okay, it is telling me that the user name does not exist. Is this maybe because she has a self hosted wordpress site? ….her user name is LynneCobb
-
Lisa,
I don’t see her name listed, either.
Could you please have her signup as a WordPress.com user?
She can do that here:
https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/?user=1
Once she’s signed up and confirmed via email, you can go ahead and invite her! If she has trouble at all, she’s welcome to contact us here, and we’ll assist.
Thanks much!

Hi Robyn, we are still having this same problem. Here is the email that I received from my potential contributor:
~ For Vibrant Nation and for Midlife Boulevard, they are WordPress-based blogs. They assigned a log in to all contributors, and we all have limited access – basically we can post our piece, and the key words, and then the editors publish. Not sure if that helps?
So, I am already in the system. Not sure if this info will clear things up:Wordpress.com – writelynne lynnecobb.wordpress.com
WordPress.org – LynneCobb lynnecobb.com
Once I logged in, it asked me to create another blog. So, I almost feel like I am back to square one!
If you could direct me as to how to proceed from here I would be very grateful! Have a great week!!
God’s Blessings for your week!Lisahttp://abeautifullifeministry.org/https://www.facebook.com/ABeautifulLifeMinistry

Hey there, Lisa,
I will look into this user further. In the meantime, could you please invite me as a contributor? You can use my WordPress.com username: thatrobyn.
I’d like to experience what your prospective user is seeing.
Thanks much!

Hi Robyn, I have already invited you and when I put your user name in it says the you already have a role. I tried deleting it and then re-sending but it just says the same thing…

Hey there,
I resent the invitation to Lynn. Please tell her that she must sign in with her user name, writelynne. If she signs in with her WordPress.org user name, she won’t be recognized here, and will be asked to create a blog. That appears to be what happened the first time she tried.
Also, she can take screenshots of any errors she’s seeing in order to display her process to me.
Instructions to take screenshots can be found here:
en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/Just upload the images to your media library and I’ll be able to access them from there.
Thanks, Lisa.
