How do I invite people to become authors on my blog?

  I am trying to set up a multi-author site. None of the authors are presently WordPress users. I would like to make the sign-up process as easy as possible for them. However, I noticed that when I send an invite to a theoretical person, that person needs to sign up for his/her own blog.wordpress.com. Is there a way to have a WordPress account without having to create your own blog?

  Yes, there is a way to do that.

  Your authors can go to the following url to sign up for WordPress.com without signing up for a blog:
  https://en.wordpress.com/signup/?user=1
