how do I just make my word press blog a website?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a blog. But I just want to make this a website here. I don’t know how to delete comment boxes, etc. Sorry for my techie deficits.

    What do you mean, website?
It IS a site on the web.
If you mean layouts or url, be more spesific.

  • Unknown's avatar

If you don’t want comments enabled on your site then you
just go to the bottom of the editor when you write a new
post or page and un-check comments…

You can also turn them off completely (for everything added from this point forward) by going to setting > discussion and deselect at least these two options and then click save changes at the bottom of the page:

Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.)
Allow people to post comments on the article

Since it isn’t linked to your username, could you please give us the URL of your wordpress.com blog, starting with http://

  • Also, please note that unchecking the options for:

Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.)
Allow people to post comments on the article

Will only set the default for new posts. This will not change anything that’s already published.

I’m working on using WP for websites–just discovered it and I think it is the greatest–I work with little churches helping folks do websites and tweaking (and it does take a little bit of that and planning) is a fantastic way to create a website with WordPress.

A KEY is that you use a template that allows page navigation. Without that, it is hard for the site to look like a website. Then organize the pages as you would organize your website. May take a bit of linking and additional writing work, but you want to think through the whole thing ahead of time as you do this.

I am mocking up some basic sites to demonstrate how to use wordpress for websites as well as demonstrating it on my own. My blog/website I hope to be done up adequately by 8/21/08, now as I post it is about half-way there–it is on http://www.effectivechurchcom.com–

which brings up–also good to upgrade to the domain redirect to look more like a website, it’s only $10 a year, more than fair and takes the .wordpress.com out of the URL.

the ones that I am mocking up to show how wonderful WordPress is for churches include:
    http://samplechurchventura.wordpress.com and http://notchurchasusual.wordpress.com

I hope to do some more writing on this …I think WordPress is an incredible undiscovered secret.
I’m telling folks in churches to drop expensive companies that rip you off to create a “flashy” pun intended website–be simple and honest in your content and send the ridiculous fees you were paying to a trustworthy group that feeds hungry kids or otherwise makes the world a better place.

    hope that helps.

When you read about using WordPress for websites, usually they are talking about independent WordPress. Be sure to read this:
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-read-me-first-before-posting?replies=1

You can, for instance, turn comments off here, but you cannot get rid of the little “No Comments” at the bottom of your posts as far as I’m aware.

http://myjustatest.wordpress.com/ explains how and gives you an example of “website” type site.

And picking up on my above comment again, it would be good to know what software the poster is using, ie wordpress.COM or .ORG before answering questions that may have substantially different answers depending on this important point. Just sayin’…

(Can you tell I’ve just woken up and not had my caffeine fix?)

Thanks so much for the feedback. My feeble brain appreciates it.

I have been using wordpress.com software for http://www.artangelswood.com. I would like to get rid off the “no comments” at the bottom of posts, etc. I did turn off comments, get domain mapping, etc.

A pro did my website at http://www.dingogirl.com w/ word press, but I’m beginning to suspect he used wordpress.org software, which i seem too stupid to navigate myself.

    Thanks

I can’t tell if the second site is a self-hosted install of wordpress blogging software (ie wordpress.org).

But on the first site, would someone else please click on the “About” page and confirm that the About page is using Cutline and not Misty!? (When I next click on the Front page, it stays on Cutline.)

  • Unknown's avatar

OK-so suddenly it’s only Cutline, but there’s still something totally weird happening with the Page tabs.

PS I’m sorry this had absolutely nothing to do with the poser’s question, but this is totally freaky!

  • Unknown's avatar

nah, nothing odd there. But something odd has been going on this weekend. Se the thread about sandbox that yella started.

  • Unknown's avatar

@boblets-Something’s definitely odd. The first time I clicked on the link http://www.artangelswood.com/ , the front page of the theme was Misty and the About page was Cutline. When I clicked on the Front page from the About page, it stayed Cutline.

The second time I clicked on that link, the theme was Cutline, but the About page was gone, replaced by a Posts page, when I clicked on that header, the Posts page disappeared and the About page reappeared.

I did look in at Yella’s thread and then her site. It seems like her entire style sheet disappeared!

    Did I miss a full moon? :->

My partner may have been editing http://artangelswood.com/ when you looked at it. I don’t know if that would do it. If so, I’m sorry for the confusion and greatly appreciate your feedback.

And I’m getting the point that to do what I propose I’d probably have to build a site w/ wordpress.org software and that I’m clearly not tech savvy enough to do that.
