How do I know if my site is going to work for Gutenberg

  • Unknown's avatar

I have an announcement on my page saying that it will soon get switched to the new editor Gutenberg. How do I know if my website is compatible with Gutenberg? I don’t even want to download the Classical Editor because I am so afraid I will lose everything. Can somebody help me with this? My website is http://www.nwheritageacademy.com

  • Hello there,

You site nwheritageacademy.com is not hosted on WordPress.com but a self-hosted site using the open source WordPress software.

    Name Servers
    NS31.DOMAINCONTROL.COM
    NS32.DOMAINCONTROL.COM

Gutenberg is still an optional plugin for users to test out the new editor. And due to Gutenberg is still new, many themes and plugins might not be compatible with this new editor. So if you’re not ready for it or if you’re working on a production/live site, you have the option not to install it. Even when the new WordPress 5.0 is going to release with Gutenberg, I’m sure all the major known bug fixes will be done and tested.

Anyway, if you need more suggestion or advice related to Gutenberg, you may post your questions at the Gutenberg support forum at WordPress.org. You may need to register an account if you don’t already have one.

For self-hosted WordPress questions, you’re recommended to post them at the WordPress.org forum and seek help from the experts and volunteer members there.

Please be informed that the staff and members of this forum could only help you out with support topics related to WordPress.com sites but not self-hosted WordPress sites as they’re separate entities and independent from each other.

  • Just to add on, Gutenberg is only changing the way you’re editing your posts and pages so it won’t make things go away.

If you’re interested in learning Gutenberg, try playing it with a test site using some of the default themes like Twenty Fifteen to maximize your user experience with the new editor. :)
