How do I know that my Blog is marked mature?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Ok

As told by Moderator that if my blog is adult in nature than I should inform staff , so that my blog can be marked as “Mature” but How would I know that they have marked it Mature?
I am waiting for there reply So that I can start posting at my blog.

If you ask them to do it, they will, don’t worry. If you start posting before they’ve re-categorized it, all that will happen is someone might hit the button to report it as “Mature” and this will just go into staff’s inbox anyway, after your request to mark it mature. You won’t get in trouble for it, I don’t think.

Why not do a harmless, G-rated post like “Hello everyone, this is what my blog is about…” and tag it with something unique, like your name, then after you post it, go to the WordPress global tag page for that tag, lordvoldemort (you click on the tag on the post, not the one in the sidebar). If your blog shows up there, you’re not Adult yet. It shouldn’t take long, though. You can always delete the post once you know for sure.

    You are marked as Mature.

Please note that your disclaimer probably is of little if any value.
Also that your disclaimer or anything similar does not override the Terms of Service.

I understand that. thanks for the information.

What if your blog isn’t mature, but someone clicks the button anyway? How do we bloggers protect ourselves from trolls who want to shut us up? This has happened to me. There is nothing mature about my blog, yet it was tagged as mature.

How is mature defined? There is not a single instance of anything sexual on my blog. There is not a single instance of the F-word, nor the S-word on my blog. How can it be tagged as mature? Anyone can tag my blog as mature? That’s crazy! So everyone else has more power than I over my blogs pagerank? How is that fair at all? Shouldn’t the staff be the ones to determine who gets tagged as mature after having looked at the actual blog to make sure that this is appropriate?

I feel that I have been treated extremely unfairly, especially since I have been blogging here since before wordpress.com was even made public, and I have been a beta tester for a service that now makes wordpress.com profits.

brentroos, the way you describe how “Mark mature” works is not accurate. There are checks and balances both automatic and personal. The system is not revealed because that knowledge would be abused.

I am sorry if your blog was wrongly marked as mature, but I am not confirming that assertion is accurate. Of course, the present content may not reflect previous content.

Hopefully, you will soon again enjoy the WordPress.com experience!

  • Unknown's avatar

It happened to me too, brentroos. I, quite frankly, raised a huge stink about it and someone must have looked at my blog again because it was relatively quickly un-Matured.

God knows my blog is edgy, but I hope and believe that it’s not sketchy. I don’t put anything sexual on my blog you can’t generally find through Google SafeSearch, for instance.

Reading your blog, I cannot imagine any valid reason it would be marked as mature. There is zero racy content: none. It is basically political, and I don’t see how political opinion would fall under that heading. Of course, I don’t make those calls, but it seems absolutely anomalous.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks raincoaster. As I said, it is only one man’s opinion. I am not even trying to make anyone else agree with it, and I respect other’s opinions. In debates, they have become a bit heated, but only in good fun, and insults are never the intention. Besides that, I have many more posts than just political ones. I have blogged a lot about Ubuntu Linux, sports, music, and many other things that my readers enjoy. Many of my readers disagree with my political views, which is perfectly fine as far as I’m concerned. Obviously there is something about my blog that keeps them coming back though. I feel that this is unfair practice on the part of wordpress.com to do this to me.

No offense to you personally raincoaster, and I hope this doesn’t make me sound like a jerk. I’m glad that I am not the only one who has gone through this, only because it makes me feel better, because since you experienced it as well, perhaps you can answer some questions for me that nobody else seems to be able to.

Did this only happen to you once? How long ago was it? Can I assume that if you haven’t had any problems with this since then, that I am relatively safe, or should I still be concerned?

Thanks for your reply. It means a lot to me.

can someone tell me if my blog has been marked as Mature?? and maybe this is why my sidebar widgets have gone crazy??

  • Unknown's avatar

Being marked as mature would have nothing to do with your sidebars. if you must know, feel free to send in a feedback and ask staff.

Quick easy way to tell is if your post’s tags aren’t showing up within the tag system.

  • Unknown's avatar

Being marked as mature has nothing to do with sidebar widgets. There are some widget issues going around which you can see in the other threads; hopefully one of them will have a solution that works for you.

Otherwise the best way to check is to click on a global tag on your site and if you don’t show up in the tag pages then you might be Mature. Send a Feedback if you don’t show up in tag pages at all and staff will tell you.

Did this only happen to you once? How long ago was it? Can I assume that if you haven’t had any problems with this since then, that I am relatively safe, or should I still be concerned?

It has only happened to me once, about eight months ago. Seriously, I screamed like a banshee, very, very publically until long after the issue was resolved. If I were you I would keep an eye on things, and I would very definitely want to know more details about why I had been put into the category (I got ZERO details, nothing. Stonewall) so that I could take steps to prevent this happening in future.

I’m still proactively cautious: I checked Top Blogs today just to make sure I was still un-Mature.

    Re: question 2
I’m confused. Why would you create a blog page titled: “Adult Content Warning” if you did not yourself consider the content of your blog to be “Mature”?
Wouldn’t it be reasonable to assume that when a blogger like yourself has posted such a warning on their blog that they have also reported the blog as being “Mature/Adult” to staff.
    {She scratches her head}.

    Hello

Adult content warning is for my readers, Because gay blogger are being targeted and singled out and banned from blog directories and add programs. So as gay HIV poz blogger I deal with mature content – not that it is pornographic. I don’t focus on mature images but we do deal with mature subjects.

My blog is serious writing, not pornographic. I cannot change those buttons for some reason, I don’t have access to any of my sidebar widgets today.

You’re in the tag system. If you were marked at mature, you wouldn’t be in there.

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m a Canadian and I despise the discrimination that gay people are subjected to. However, I’m thinking that as you have posted this warning and if you also have links to sites depicting people engaged in sexual acts then you may, in essence, have labeled your own blog “Mature”. If there is no porn on your site and no links as I’ve described above perhaps re-naming your “Adult Content Warning” page might be a good idea.
Edit: Thanks for the tag information drmike we were typing simultaneously.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello

My question of “Mature Blog” is not the issue here, that I cannot access any of my widgets, pages, profile or any interactive areas of my blog IS.

I know, in the last week, that several gay Word Press Bloggers and well as others listed on Google pages, Ad sense and other ad programs were singled out wrongly, and I wrote about those issues. Now I cannot access anything except posting abilities.

That this is a gay blog is not the issue at hand.

    Thanx
    Jeremy

  • Unknown's avatar

I realize that but you keep trying to connect the mature issue with your sidebar. You’re not listed as a mature blog. I proved that a few posts up.

As to your issue, I’ve answered in the other thread and am awaiting your responces. Unfortunely I have to go home. I already have to deal with my apartment’s security since I’ll be walking in after 10pm.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello
    Quoting drmike:

Being marked as mature would have nothing to do with your sidebars.

And your blog is not labeled Mature.
The technical problems you’re having with your blog can only be remedied by staff if you send in a feedback. No volunteers on the forum, including drmike, have backend access to blogs and it seems that a backend blog “fix” by staff is what is required.

  • Unknown's avatar

YAY! The widgets problem was solved by force clearing of the browser. http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=7211&replies=14
