How do I know that my Blog is marked mature?
-
Strangely, I too have noticed some strangeness when I post about gay issues. As some of you know, I do between 3 and 12 blog posts every 24 hours, and I’ve noticed strange glitches and not-saving and “Page cannot display” warnings and eerie hangups when I try to publish, but literally only on the gay-related posts.
My entirely hypothetical thinking is that this would not be WordPress, but rather something to do with our ISPs…and forgive me for sounding paranoid, but is Echelon in service now? This would all make sense if, for instance, the FBI had computers set to scan gay issue sites or a virus spreading program were looking for keywords or something.
Okay, you may all tell me I’m totally crazy now.

IMO this has nothing to do with do with WordPress. It’s probably as you say to do with some ISP’s. I’m having no difficulties at all on Telus.

Can single blog posts be marked as mature?
I’m asking because my blog is not marked, but I noticed that one post should have made it to Swedish top posts, but it didn’t. Now that I read about discrimination against gay blogs I realize this can be the case since it was about sexuality and homo/transphobia.

“Now that I read about discrimination against gay blogs”
There is no discrimination. None.

Can single blog posts be marked as mature?
Afraid not. Best bet would be to make the post into a private post and then create a second post explaining the issue and linking to it. That way folks can deside themselves if they want to view it or not.
You can make a post into a private one but editing it and looking for the Post Status tab along the right hand side.
Hope this helps,

I am quite new on com. What are the consequences of being marked mature? How does it work?
-
You don’t get listed in the tag system, the next link within the blue admin bar along the top and you’re not in the botd.wordpress.com rankings.
-
Nor do you show up in the Most Recently Updated on people’s dashboards. You will never be featured on the WordPress.com home page. But it doesn’t affect your google ranking (except indirectly by keeping you off the tag system), technorati rank, etc.
-
It might make sense for the dashboard to tell me that my blog has been marked mature. Not that “mature” is a label I’m expecting, for me or for my blog…
-
Yes, it would be better if the blog owner had some way of knowing. Every time I piss someone off I expect my blog to be reported, so I spend a couple of days obsessively checking to see if I’ve vanished from the tag pages.
