how do i know what size to make photo to fit into sidebar widget

  how do i know what size to make photo image to fit into sidebar – am using image widget but photo is squashed up? My photo is all squashed up – have tried cropping or making image smaller but not working? Thanks for help!

  It only looks squashed (or cropped) in lousy browser versions: in decent browsers the image is automatically downsized to fit the sidebar width.
  But anyway lousy browsers exist, plus you get worse quality when the image is downsized by the browser, plus uploading 3000x4000px images is a waste of storage space; so you’re right, you need to use an image editing application or an online tool to downsize a copy of the image to the right pixel width, and upload that copy. Right width for Stay is 250px. You can find such info in the Theme Showcase site:
