How do I create links in the navigation bar?
-
Yes. To provide an example, look at the upper-right corner of my friend’s blog: http://stephaniekuzydym.wordpress.com/
Do you notice how she has links to “Archive”, “Stephanie Kuzydym”, “Journalism Clips” & etc.? That’s what I’d like to create on my account (see above blog URL). She told me she didn’t know how she created those links.
I looked through the tutorials and was told that I before I could add a Blogroll link, I had to add the Link Widget from the Appearance -> Widgets page (http://en.support.wordpress.com/blogroll/add-a-blogroll-link/). So I’d click on Links Widget – which was hyperlinked – and it said to use the Links Widget feature, I’d first need to create a blogroll
So I’m going in circles here … and I know how to create neither.
Please help!

Hi there,
It looks like you want to create a custom menu for your site, rather than a Blogroll. You can do so by following the directions available here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/If you would also like to add a Blogroll to your site, you can add links by going to your Dashboard > Links. Once you’ve added links via the Links page, go to your Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets and activate the Links Widget.
-
I’ve followed the link to the directions you left. WHen I attempt to follow the instructions, I see “The current theme does not natively support menus.” So do I need to choose a different theme to be able to do what Stephanie did with her page?
-
Actually, I need to clarify: I successfully created a menu. And I added a custom link. Do I need to change themes to be able to see those custom links in the upper right-hand corner the way Stephanie’s profile features links?
-
I apologize for not noting this earlier! Yes, it does appear that the theme you’re using does not support menus. As an alternative, you can add a Custom Menu Widget to your Sidebar:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/custom-menu-widget/Additionally, the location of your custom menu does depend on the theme you’re using. From what I can see, your friend is using the Duotone theme, the layout of which includes the navigation bar at the top of the page.
-
What would you recommend? Add a custom menu widget? Or change my theme? Which is necessary to create a custom menu?
-
This primarily depends on your preferences. If you’re happy with your theme, I would simply add a Custom Menu Widget by following the directions above.
However, if having a navigation bar near the top of your site is important to you, I would suggest checking out some other themes:
