How do I link a post to another post or page?
-
I am fairly new to blogging and think am doing ok so far, but how can I link a previously published post into a more recent post or another page? I know how to add links for other web pages, and media, and when I tried to use the permalink address that didn’t work. Really grateful for some advice here. Thanks.

Can we get a link to your blog, starting with http, and also a link to the post you’re trying to link to?

Sorry, but none of this is helping me. This is what I want to do: I have a published post(s). I want to refer to it/them from another page or a post i.e.: Please read my post (blah, blah) for more information, so when they click on (blah, blah)it goes to my previously published post (which might be archived) I have seen this on other sites and don’t know how to do it. I hope this is clear.

In order to help you we need a link to your blog, starting with http. We generally ALWAYS need a link to your blog. Teck’s suggestion is just to save you time for the next time you ask a question. We cannot help you until you give us the link, whether you link it to your name or just put it in the text, starting with http.
We also need a link to that published post, just so when we give you the example you can figure it out right away instead of all this “Insert the html of Post A into slot in the html in Post B” nonsense.

ok. as I said. I am still new to this. my site is: http://arlenetoth.wordpress.com . I would like to link The Lodger post into one I am doing now ( so where I typed The Lodger, they can click on that and my Lodger post comes up in another window) and would like to be able to do this for future postings. I also have a review – Tango en Sevilla that I want to link to my EuroTango page on my other blog: http://londontango.wordpress.com (Sorry, I have ventured out for the first time in over 24 hours and the oxygen has gotten to my head.)

Thank you.
So you want to link to the post
http://arlenetoth.wordpress.com/2008/12/02/the-lodger/
from the post
http://arlenetoth.wordpress.com/2008/12/04/it-was-a-wonderful-life/
and you want it to open in a new window. Yes?That’s not hard. You make the links just the way you’d make the links to external sites. You can go to the post and copy the URL from the browser bar or you can just hover your cursor over the title, right click, and save link location. Then you go to the post you’re linking FROM, edit it, put in the words you want to make the link (presumably “see my other post, The Lodger” and highlight The Lodger, then click on the link icon. In the pop-up box, paste in the URL of The Lodger post. Select Open in New Window in the second box, and in the third just give it a title; in this case, obviously, The Lodger.
There are other instructions here if you find those confusing:

I feel like a ditz! I tried that before by copying the permalink address and doing the link instructions, but I got an error when I clicked on it after it was published. It worked this time by right clicking on the post and saving location and pasting as you suggested. Thanks very much! :-)

You’re welcome. It’s always easier to grab it from the browser bar of a published post, because sometimes preview and other functions are not exactly the end result we need.
