How do I link my blog through my username?

I know this should be incredibly easy, but again, I am struggling to find the answer. Why is it, when I comment on another WordPress blog or even in the help forum, my blog does not link through my name? I have added my URL to my settings, and nothing. Any insight?

For example, on a blog I recently commented on, when you click my name, an error message appears that says:
The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded.

I just clicked on your username and it took me to your blog just fine. Do remember that it only works when commenting on blogs hosted here at wordpress.COM, and also only when you are logged in.
At the site where you get the error, hover your mouse over your username and look at it to see if there is an error. Also, try logging out, clearing your browser cache and cookies and then logging back in. It may be a cookie issue since that is where wordpress stores that information.

So odd……when I look at the properties of my name on the other blog (it is a WordPress blog and I am logged in) it says the link is “http:///” My URL is listed as “http://pennyplastic.wordpress.com” in my profile. Am I supposed to do this anywhere else?

I’m not sure what happened with that particular blog. As I remember, the linking of your username to your blog is not retroactive which means any blogs you commented on before you linked your username to your blog will remain unlinked.
Try contacting the blog owner if you can and see if they will edit the comment for you and add your correct URL. That’s abotu all I have to offer.
Also if you wish, put a comment on my test blog and I’ll see if it is linking correctly now. http://opposablethumbz.wordpress.com

If you happen to be having a fight with the owner of that other blog, it’s possible they edited out your link. I’ve heard of it happening, but it’s a longshot. If you could give us a link to the post where it’s happening we can take a look and make some suggestions.

Ha, well, I don’t know them and I just discovered the blog, so I think it’s a long shot. It’s the first time I have commented on a WP blog, and I would like it if other readers can link through to my blog.

I have not seen that before. It’s very unusual to say the least. Do leave a comment on tsp’s test blog above or my blog and we can take a look at what the blog admin sees. It certainly works just fine here.

It did indeed work 100% fine. Can’t imagine what is going wrong at the other blog unless they’re editing your URL. You could try to leave another comment over there sometime this week and see if it still does that, but don’t leave bogus “testing” comments, of course.

having a similar problem here too.
some work, you see the finger when you hover over some names and others do not seem to even invoke the to hover finger although there is clearly a link in the URL option for that user’s comment.

Oh, and on second look, yours is not a WordPress.COM blog at all but an independently-hosted one. That means you’re in the wrong forum as our software is different and won’t apply to you. You need to be over at WordPress.ORG.
