I searched for you. Here is the result:
I have used CoverItLive before, but although they were close to allowing it as an embed I don’t believe it works now. You can use this workaround http://raincoastermedia.com/2011/12/23/coveritlive-in-a-wordpress-com-blog/ From: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/live-blogging-feature?replies=7#post-1575392
re: plugins
WordPress.com is a multiuser blogging platform. Our blogs are not free standing. There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we bloggers cannot install any plugins. There is no upgrade you can purchase that will provide FTP access and the ability to install plugins, upload themes, and/or edit templates and themes in a free hosted WordPress.com blog.

To use plugins you must hire a web host and then set up your own WordPress.org install. -

A couple of “live” blogging solutions I saw on WordPress.ORG installs were
1) Just a new Post every 5 or 10 minutes
2) A Post that was updated every few minutes, with a new Post started from time to time
Not really I think what you ask for, but these were on .ORG installs that could have used Plugin’s if they wanted
