How do I look over "spam" from the past and lower or erase my filters?

  I just looked at my spam for the first time ever, there was one comment in there, it was from my mother who has publicized comments already. This makes me wonder about the 1,000+ spam comments I never saw. Is there a way to look back over old spam? I’m concerned I might have missed some important legitimate stuff!
