  • Hi there. What exactly do you want to do?

I see you already have child-pages in your menu that display as drop-downs.

If you’re referring to your blog posts appearing underneath one another on the home page, that’s how blogs work. All posts are published to the home page with the most recent post at the top. If you don’t want all your posts on the home page you can set a static page as your home page and have your posts display on a different page. See here for instructions on doing that: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

I did get some child pages that look like a drop-down menu, but I cannot figure out how to move the parent page info into those 2 separate child pages. I cannot figure out the way to post to them or edit them. thank you.

  • Just to make sure I understand you correctly: You want the content of the parent page to be on the child pages instead? You’ll have to do that manually by cutting and pasting the information.

Go to the WP-Admin dashboard: http://annsroost.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ and click on Pages ->All Pages. Click Edit on the pages you want to change (you can right-click on Edit and select Open in New Tab to edit more than one page at the same time if you want, for example, to move content between pages). Make sure to update the pages when you’re done editing.

If you plan on creating more child pages in the menu later on, I’d recommend you look into setting up a custom menu. With a custom menu you can re-order and rank pages by dragging and dropping, making it much simpler than struggling with the page order and page parent options in the editor. See here for instructions on Custom Menus: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

Let me know if you need any more help.

I appreciate your responses so much – I am not very techy and am pretty lost. I cannot cut and paste into the sub pages. They don’t really open so I can put anything into them. When I click on them it only brings up the parent page. I changed my theme so I could have a side bar instead of a footer for widgets so it looks different now. I am getting there but just cant figure out how to add text to those sub pages. Thank you!

  • Okay, it seems you have the same page, https://annsroost.wordpress.com/machine-knit-techniques/ , on the menu twice as both a parent page and a child page titled Knit Leader. You other child page, Swatching, links to a post titled Img2track Machine Knitting (https://annsroost.wordpress.com/2015/04/01/img2track-machine-knitting/)

I’m guessing here as I can’t see your site’s dashboard, but the only way you could have added those was via the custom menu.

The reason you can’t find them under All Pages to edit is because they are, in fact, not pages. First, create the pages you want. Go the WP-Admin link I gave you above and click on Pages ->Add New. Give the page the title and the content you want, and publish it. If you want other pages, create and publish them as well. At the same time, if there’s a page under All Pages you don’t want, delete it.

Next, go to Appearance ->Menus in the WP-Admin dashboard. Remove those two child pages you created by clicking on them and clicking Remove. Then add any pages that are missing from the menu from the pages area on the left (the support doc and tutorial I linked above tell you how). Lastly, drag and drop the pages so they’re in the order you want them to be. To create a child page, simply drag it to the right.

Lastly, make sure the custom menu is selected as your primary menu at the bottom of the screen and save the menu.

Let me know how it goes.
