how do I make a sidebar on home page and why is edit available to public

  my blog address is http//vedaeddy.wordpress.com. My theme is Blissful Blog.

  Is there a way to get the home page to have a sidebar so that the categories widget will show?

  Why does the edit link show on these pages when I access it using the web address that the public uses?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  If you add widgets to the sidebar widget area they will show up on your pages like this: http://vedaeddy.wordpress.com/about/

  You also have widget space in your footer. You can get to both areas by going to appearance>widgets on your dashboard.

  Unfortunately the blissful theme doesn’t have an option for a sidebar on the blog feed page or on individual posts.
