How do I make a widget without it being repeated in the top menu?

  I want to place something on the side bar (e.g. birthday parties), but I don’t want the same on the top.

  To control which pages appear in your top navigation bar, you’ll want to activate a custom menu for your site. You can create a menu via your Appearance -> Menus page:

  To activate a menu, select a menu from the drop-down below “Primary Navigation” on your Appearance -> Menus page.
