How do I make blogs listed on a custom menu on my Homepage easily accessible?
-
I spent hours yesterday trying to figure this out and reading the help stuff. I created a custom menu with the ones listed but cannot figure out how to make it so when a reader clicks on the title, they automatically go to that blog.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Thank you. I think I am out of my depth. I’m not sure I understand your answer. I think I need to spend some time pondering this … Thank you kindly.

You got this.
To add a new menu item, go to your Dashboard and click on the Menus tab.
- Click on the + icon and select the location for your new item
- Choose the [Link] menu item type from the list at the left
- Select from the options displayed for that type
- Click the Add Item button
Give your link a title and then add the URL. Hit the Save button and give it a look.

Thanks, again. I created a separate page for a post but it does not show up under the menu tab. I have the URL. It is https://smartaboutscents.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=149&action=edit I noticed all my other posts have the same URL because they were all created on one web page. So, I shouldn create a separate page for each post I want listed on my Homepage, right? I am trying to do two things. I want the list on the Homepage. Plus, I wanted to organize my blogs in three categories under the Blogs page but maybe I don’t need to do that? Thanks very much :0) CJ

I’ll focus on the latter issue.
First question. If I click on your Blogs menu link, I end up at https://smartaboutscents.wordpress.com/blogs/ — is this correct?
-
Yes, that’s right. That’s why I think I need to create a separate page for each post I want as a link on my Homepage, right?
-
Every post you have made is on https://smartaboutscents.wordpress.com/blogs/ — if you scroll down (infinitely), you will see your blog posts. There’s no need to do anything more.
You do not need those sub-menus below Blogs, unless you really want to call attention to a particular post. It’s my opinion that the Blogs menu item is all that you need and anything below that is confusing. I would recommend that you remove the menu items under the Blogs menu.
Go here: https://wordpress.com/menus
Click on the pencil icon for “Everything You Didn’t Want To Know About Scented Products”.
Next click the trash icon.
Repeat these steps for all the menu items below Blogs.
Make sure you hit the Save button when you are done. -
Um, just prior to getting your post, I tried to delete one menu item that wasn’t working and it looks like I deleted my entire menu … Woops. My blogs are still here. I think the pages I created are, too. So, I must just need to recreate the menu. I’m afraid you are trying to help an EXTREMELY TECHNICALLY CHALLENGED PERSON! Thank you so much for you time and patience!

Thank you, Schulte!!! I got my menu back up with just the 3 menu items on it and got rid of the subcategories under blogs. Thank you for helping me … that worked beautifully. I just have three pages now.
As for the Homepage, should I make a separate page for each blog I want to put a link to on my Homepage? Then try what you recommended earlier? Thanks again, you’re awesome! CJ

You’re welcome.
I think you should write a paragraph or two on the Homepage that describes your blog. I would also place the following code below those paragraphs.
[display-posts include_excerpt="true" posts_per_page="3"]You may need to paste this code using the Text Editor instead of the Visual Editor. This will display the links and excerpts of the three most recent posts. Give it a whirl.

Thank you, Schulte :o) What I was hoping to do is to have each of those titles listed on my homepage so readers can easily choose which topic they most want to learn about (hopefully) and that a click would take the reader there easily so they don’t have to scroll indefinitely. ie parents might be most interested in the article on hormone disruptors being linked to attention and behavioural disorders in kids, for example. I also planned to have less formal, shorter stuff under blogs …

Hi CJ,
I believe what you are looking for is Category Pages. A category page allows you to link to blog posts in a certain category or tag. Here’s how to set that up:
