How do I make categories show in my sidebar?

  I made some categories where I want to put some posts, however, I want the categories to show up in the sidebar. I put the widget called “categories” in the sidebar but for some reason my categories still don’t show up! Why? And how can I fix this?

  Any category you create will not appear in your sidebar until you have written a post that has been assigned to it.
