How do I make image appear when I post link to blog on email, FB and twitter?

the featured image does not appear when I let friends know I have posted a new blog via email, FB or twitter.
it shows up like a rectangle with an empty box on the left. How can I make an image appear alongside each story?http://www.victoriablog457.wordpress.com

Know that we have no control over the images that Twitter, Facebook or any other social networks chooses to display or when they choose to flush their image caches. We really only send them the URL of the post, and they hunt through that for the excerpt and images to include.
