How do I make my blog public?
-
Hi,
I’m new to WordPress. I shared my blog site with a friend and she couldn’t view the page. It told her to add me on WordPress but I haven’t seen anything on my page of her trying to add me. How do I make it so that my blog is public?
Thanks,
KristieThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your followers can subscribe to receive your posts by email and they alone can control the frequency of receipt. You cannot subscribe for them or control the frequency of receipt of your posts by them.
You can set up email subscriptions here > Appearance > Widgets > Follow Blog Widgets by using this guide > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/
If you would like a follow button to appear on the bottom right hand corner of your site for those who do not have WordPress.com accounts go to > Settings > Reading and scroll down to Follower Settings:
These settings change emails sent from your blog to followers.
Logged out users __ Show follow button to logged out users.Checking this will present a follow button to logged out users in the bottom corner of their screen.

We have a subscription shortcode which you can make use of. The help page on it is right here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/blog-subscription-shortcode/ You can also include the subscription shortcode at the end of every post you publish.
Additional information:
You can create a Page https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ and place a contact form on it https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/ for use of those who wish to have their email addresses harvested. You can create a sign up page on MailChimp only. If you want to use MailChimp with your WordPress.com site here’s the info from MailChimp Support http://kb.mailchimp.com/article/how-to-add-a-mailchimp-signup-form-to-your-wordpress-blog

Thanks for the responses. So I guess my question is actually: do you need to be a registered WordPress user to view a WordPress blog? Or can non registered viewers access it as well?

You do not need to be a registered WordPress user to view a blog. Do you have a screen shot of what she is getting?
-
Okay, well that’s strange because if you are not logged on to WordPress, you can’t view my blog. My friend was having issues with it. Any chance you know why it’s doing that?

I can view you blog on 3 different computers. All one does it type the URL http://kristiesthougts.wordpress.com/ into their upper browser bar and click. The place to go to upgrade an browser version is http://browsehappy.com and you can pass that on to your friend.

I don’t know how to show a screenshot (I don’t see how to insert a photo for this forum). Could it be that she was trying to use it on her mobile device?

The screenshot isn’t required as we don’t provide support for friends. We provide support here only for bloggers hosted here. My guess is that she has either a browser or a connectivity issue. Below is a checklist she can work through.
1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:

http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily. Know also that security and firewall programs and programs that run incognito mode may need to be temporarily disabled as well.
(d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions
4. You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not then go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download and install the latest version of flash.
5. Try using another browser.
