How do I make my blog unsearchable in WP and in search engines?

It’s an elementary class website so I want it to be public and accessible to anybody with the link, but not searchable for the outside world.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi ulakon,

See this article for privacy settings on your site: https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

You’ll want to set yours to “Discourage search engines from indexing this site.” Note WordPress cannot dictate what search engines do, thus this is not a guarantee they will not show your site.

You can also use Google’s website removal tool here: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/removals. Again, this is not a guarantee that it will not show on searches, but it is very likely they will honor the request. The only way to make absolutely sure the outside world cannot access the site would be to make the site private and invite your class or colleagues.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions about that.

  • The only way to make absolutely sure your site won’t appear in search engines or WordPress.com’s internal search is by setting it to private. Then it won’t be indexed at all and only you and people you specifically invite will be able to see it. Instructions in the same support doc @sfarley85 linked above.
