    Hi Angela,

I see that you’ve switched themes since you sent in this message, and now your portfolio is set up on this page: http://angelastinnett.com/portfolio/

Is there anything more I can do to help you with that portfolio or any other part of your site?

Hi Rachelmcr, thank you very much for reaching out to me. I got a very techy friend to help me. I thought wordpress.com themes would be more user friendly. Their how-to and troubleshooting left a lot to be desired as well. I really just want a static portfolio website with no blogging, as I am a graphic designer, and I’ve since learned that the portfolio feature is not a page but a post, I guess, and you access it thru a link on your site. So that’s what I now have. I really want to get rid of all the widgetty stuff, and I’ve removed most of it, but don’t know how to remove “like”, “edit”, and “leave a reply”. I think I have to upgrade [$30] to get custom design and remove them then? Not sure. I would any and all help you’re willing to give! Thanks!!!

    Hi Angela,

Sure thing! I’m happy to help you remove the elements you don’t need on your site:

I really want to get rid of all the widgetty stuff, and I’ve removed most of it, but don’t know how to remove “like”, “edit”, and “leave a reply”.

    Removing “like”

The “like” button you see is part of our Likes feature, which you can disable under Settings > Sharing in your site’s dashboard. Your likes (and any other sharing buttons you enable) will be displayed according to the Show buttons on setting. You can uncheck all those boxes to turn them off everywhere.

You can also disable the like button on specific posts and pages by clicking the “Edit” link on the page. In the “Advanced Settings” section of the editor, you can uncheck the box next to “Show Likes” to remove them just from that post or page.

    Removing “edit”

The “edit” link you see on the page is only visible to you while you’re logged in to the WordPress.com account that manages your site. Other visitors to your site won’t see that link — it’s just there as a shortcut to help you edit the post or page.

    Removing “leave a reply”

The “Leave a Reply” section appears when comments are enabled for a post or page. For posts or pages that are already published, you can click the “Edit” link on the post/page to disable comments. In the “Advanced Settings” section of the editor, you can uncheck the box next to “Allow Comments” to remove that comment section from that post or page.

We have more about how to control those comment settings here: Enable and Disable Comments

I think I have to upgrade [$30] to get custom design and remove them then?

You don’t need the custom design upgrade to change those things I mentioned, but there’s a lot more customization you can do with it. You can read more about its features here: Custom Design

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help! :)

YAY!!! Thank you so much, Rachelmcr!!
I went ahead and purchased the Custom Design upgrade, because I know I will want to keep customizing my site.
Whew! Thank you so much for all your help!

You’re very welcome! :) I just saw you posted a question about removing the author and date from your site, so I’ll head over to that support thread and give you a hand with that:

Hey Rachelmcr! I need to remove “Post Format Archives: Gallery” from my Portfolio page. I guess it should just say “Portfolio” [Like About Me and Resume pages]. Can you help me with this?
Also, can I have the “featured images” on this page [to fill out the grid design], but not have the “featured image” show up on each of the project pages?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Angela,

You can make both of these changes using custom CSS. :) I’d recommend taking a look at our CSS help pages to get started with that:

If you get stuck, the CSS Customization forum is a good place to ask questions and get tips for making specific changes using CSS:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization

Or you can request additional help if you’d rather have someone make those changes for you: Request Theme Customization

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

    Ok – thanks Rachel!
