how do I make my posts show up in the archives category only?
-
I want my past posts to show up in the archives category, but not on the front page. My posts are in both published form on the front page and the archives category.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The “archives” are not separate from the main blog. They are simply a list of posts by either year/month. In other words, the minute you publish a post, it automatically and immediately becomes a part of the current month’s archive.

All posts are in the archives. There is no way to exclude posts from the main blog pages.
What you can do is to limit the number of posts that show on a page if you wish at settings > reading.

Actually you can set the posts to private, and that will remove them entirely from the blog, but they will still be viewable by you from the dashboard.

“All posts are in the archives. There is no way to exclude posts from the main blog pages.”
This seems a little strange. I would have assumed that when, for instance, November becomes December, the November posts would cease to be visible on the main page — only in the November archive. I’m posting 15-20 reviews a month and I don’t *all* of them to be on the main page *forever*. And if I change the “show at most” setting to 15-20, then for most of the month I’ll have half November posts, half December.
I’d like to suggest to any admin who reads this that it would be really nice to have an option: “show only current month’s posts.”

I’m sorry but what you suggest is not the way blogs work. Worse still you are confused as evidenced by this statement:”I’m posting 15-20 reviews a month and I don’t *all* of them to be on the main page *forever*. “
You can go here -> Settings -> Reading -> Blog pages show at most ___ posts and set the number of posts that will appear on your front page. Then click “Save Changes”. The posts that display will always be the most recent posts published as that’s how blogs work.
Any blog reader can go a blog and when they reach the bottom of the front page they can click “previous entries” or “older entries. When they reach the end of that page they can click “previous entries” or “older entries” gain, and so on until they reach the first post published on the blog. The Archives widget offers a option of locating posts by date, and the Categories widget offers the option of locating posts by category.
-
BTW most readers do not appreciate scrolling down front pages that are 15 – 20 posts long. Normally no more than 5 – 7 posts of shorter or moderate length is the setting that most bloggers use for the number of posts displayed on the front page.

yeah, when i get to a blog with made text down the middle from dozens of posts my eyes glaze over. :(

I, too, would like my older posts to show up in archives and not be visible on the posts. Is there a way to save the older posts to a page or move the older posts to another area — and then, delete them from the post?
