How do I make my site private (password protected)?

  Hi wordpress community,

  Hope this finds you well today, enjoying summertime…

  I was wondering if you could guide me in making my blog private (that is, when someone logs onto my blog, I would love for them to see a private notice, requiring a password). Thank you for your kind assistance.
