HOw do I make only the TITLES of posts display in a category?
-
I’d like to make only the titles of the posts with a link to the full post (and summary perhaps) display as a list when a reader clicks a category, instead of the whole posts. How can I do that?

The only control you have other than creating your own index page (see FAQs blog for instructions) and not using the category widget at all is what follows.
In the posts themselves you can use the more tag. You simply insert the following in the body of the post
<!—more But wait, there’s more!–> -
You can’t do it with the setup we have here at wp.com. You would need to edit the theme files and, if you were allowed to do that, you would be editing the files for everybody using that theme and they would be doing the same thing to you.

Try putting in a short one sentance excerpt of each post and then switching themes to one that only shows excerpts on the category page.
(note to self: I should test if a theme shows the excerpt or full text on a category page)
