How do I make the Header Text in my widgets hyperlinked?
-
If you look at the right hand column of my blog, some of the widgets have header text hyperlinked (like Facebook), and some don’t (like instagram, twitter). Also I added a foodgawker widget through the text widget and was wondering if I can get the header text there hyperlinked too.
Lastly, I was wondering if it was possible to not have those big widgets on the right hand column and instead do a short row of image widgets close to the top for people to connect with me on all the social media I am on. See this blog as an example: http://ohsheglows.com
Under her about me box, she has a Keep In Touch Box…this is kind of what I wanted to see if I can do. Thank you!The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The widgets are not similar and therefore act differently, but generally the widget title is just meant as a title and shouldn’t be clickable.
Alternatively you can follow the instructions in this guide on how to add social media icons to your sidebar: http://en.support.wordpress.com/add-social-media-buttons-to-your-sidebar-or-footer/

Awesome thanks! I don’t know much about html, but I will follow that guide and hopefully I can understand it. I’ll let you know if I have any questions!

Oh, and what does the link to my RSS feed do? I am a little unsure of what that is, where I find it and how it helps my blog?
-
Oh, sorry…one more. If I have other social media places like Tumblr, google plus, instagram…do I just copy a line that’s the same as the others but say the other social media title instead?

People can subscribe through an RSS Reader to your RSS feed address. You can read more about this at http://en.support.wordpress.com/feeds/

Yes, you can use the example in the support document I gave you. Otherwise feel free to add your code to a text widget for me to look at, or post it in this thread and wrap it around with the ‘code’ button just above this form/field.

Have you tried adding it to your blog’s sidebar using a text widget? or did you try to add it to this thread?

I currently have it in a text widget…here is what I have:
<div><img title=”Facebook” src=”http://veggiesdontbite.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/facebook-olive.png” alt=”Facebook” width=”35″ height=”35″ /><img title=”Twitter” src=”http://veggiesdontbite.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/twitter-orange.png” alt=”Twitter” width=”35″ height=”35″ /><img title=”Pinterest” src=”http://veggiesdontbite.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/pinterest-olive.png” alt=”Pinterest” width=”35″ height=”35″ /><img title=”Google+” src=”http://veggiesdontbite.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/google-plus-orange.gif” alt=”Google+” width=”35″ height=”35″ /><img title=”Instagram” src=”http://veggiesdontbite.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/instagram-olive.png” alt=”Instagram” width=”35″ height=”35″ /><img title=”Tumblr” src=”http://veggiesdontbite.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/tumblr-orange.png” alt=”Tumblr” width=”35″ height=”35″ /><img title=”Email” src=”[image URL for Email icon]” alt=”Email” width=”35″ height=”35″ /><img title=”RSS” src=”http://veggiesdontbite.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/rss-orange.gif” alt=”RSS” width=”35″ height=”35″ /></div>

I don’t see it on your site. Is it not working for you? Otherwise I’d be happy to set it for you if you point me out where you want to have it.

OK, I think I figured it out. I added two, one for my social media and one for my galleries on other sites. How does it look? Also, why does the social media one have the title in black but the gallery one have the title in orange? Same goes for some of my other widgets, is there a way to have all the titles the same color?
Also, off topic but do you have an opinion on when a blogger is “ready” to go self hosted versus wordpress hosting? And maybe what the disadvantage to switching is?
Thanks for your help in setting up my widgets!

Oh, one more question, is there a way to change the color of the social media icons to match my logo colors? I think I did fairly well searching and uploading as close as I could get in color but just curious. Thanks!

Looks great! Some widgets have links in their title, which uses a different color. If you want I can find the right CSS code to make all titles the same color, either black or orange. Which one do you prefer?

WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities. At WordPress.com, we provide hosting, support, and tons of features for blogs. Users also have the option to purchase a variety of upgrades to customize the look and feel of their blog. WordPress.org is a software for self-hosted sites. With WordPress.org, users are provided access to all backend files and can upload custom themes and plugins.

This is only possible if you find matching colored logos. But I think you did pretty well already :) Looks good.

I’d appreciate that! I think black just to make it pop, I can always change the color code in the CSS int he future if I want, I’m pretty sure I know how to do that and I know the color codes to all my colors in my logo.
As for the difference between hosting or self, I am trying to up the ante on my blog to help with me SEO and increase my traffic because I want to be able to qualify for the ads program. I had a friend of a friend suggest I go self host because it would greatly improve my site. In your experience does it help? Mostly along the lines of traffic and the ad program. I know that if I self host I can add google adwords which will bring in some ad income but not sure if I need to qualify for that too. I know my traffic is slowly getting better, and I have only been doing this since November so I know it takes time…but trying to do what I can to up the ante! Thank you!

You can use this CSS code:
a, .sidebar .widget h2:after, .sidebar .widget li span { color: #000; }We also have a Global Tagging (Topics) system that search engines love and we ping out to all the major engines every time you update your blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/

The CSS worked, thanks!
I’ll have to do some more research into the topic of SEO and trying to decide if I should self host…it’s all so confusing!
