How do I make the Sketch theme look like its example?

I can’t seem to make the Sketch theme look like its example i.e. with multiple frames with captions on the front page and a horizontal menu across the top.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Thanks timethief. Do you know if a Portfolio page can be made into a front page?

  • @joshzaslow
The instructions to make the portfolio page your homepage can be found here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

Thanks kokkieh. Can a Portfolio page show multiple posts instead of just images (kind of like what themes like Pictorico and Auto Focus do automatically)?

  • The portfolio page only shows portfolio projects, I’m afraid. The Sketch theme is really optimised to showcase portfolio projects, not posts.

You can have your posts appear on the portfolio page in Sketch via some trickery, but it will not show a preview of the post’s content.

To have a post display on the portfolio page, view the post in your browser and copy the URL from the address bar. Next, go to your dashboard and create a new project under Portfolio -> Add New. In the title field (you don’t need to add any content to the project), add the following, substituting the post URL and post title where indicated:

    <a href="http://post URL">Post Title</a>

Before you publish the project, make sure to also assign a featured image that will appear as the thumbnail on the portfolio page.

When you publish, the image and title will appear on the portfolio page, but if people click on the title they’ll be taken to the post instead. This will not automatically update if you publish new posts, so you’ll have to do this manually each time you want a new/different post to display there.

Thanks kokkieh. If I want multiple posts to appear on this portfolio page, do I just add them to the title field?

  • You’ll need to create a separate portfolio project for each post you want to appear. In each case, assign a featured image, and put the link to the post in the title using the html I supplied above.

When you no longer want a post to appear, either delete the portfolio project linking to it, or replace the featured image and link with that of another post.
