How do I make the width of the "writing-area" more narrow?

    Right now the area where my posts get posted is quite width. This means, that if I post pictures and want them to fit to the very left and right side of this area, the pictures will get quite large. What do I need to write in the CSS in order to make the post-area more narrow?
    To visualize my problem:

    I would like to go from this “post-area width”
    I————————————————————-I
    to this
    I——————————————I

    Twenty Eleven is what is called a reactive design, which means there is a maximum width for the theme set in the CSS, and as you narrow the browser window down under that maximum width, the theme automatically gets narrower. That makes it quite easy in this case to narrow the maximum width. Add the following to your CSS edit window and decrease the 1100px value to the value you desire.

    #page {
    max-width: 1100px;
    }
