how do I make widgets appear on the home page of http://blog3015.wordpress.com/?

  • Unknown's avatar

I do not want a static homepage for my blog (http://blog3015.wordpress.com/, in wp 2012), just the regular page that displays my posts. But I do want my widgets to show on the front page. It seems like I’m supposed to designate the regular “show my posts” page as the front or home page in order for the “front page widget area” to appear there, but I can’t figure out how to designate it that way. It doesn’t appear as a “page” in the “all pages” menu. I’m sure this is fairly simple, I just can’t find the steps for how to denominate the home page correctly. All the stuff I’ve found in forums is about how to make a page that is NOT the default home into your home, and that’s not what I want to do. Thanks. ttravis9

Uh, the blog I need help with is NOT pointsadhsblog.wordpress.com. WP just added that at random. The blog in question is blog3015.

    Hi there,
Please consult your theme description page here http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/twentytwelve/
Then scroll down to “Widgets and No-sidebar Layout”

Simply remove any active widgets to the Main Sidebar area and the sidebar will disappear.

Did you remove any active widgets to the Main Sidebar area?
    Appearance > Widgets

Scroll down to Front Page Template here http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/twentytwelve/

arrange front-page-only widgets below in one or two columns …

There are conditional visibility settings on widgets. Widgets now have “visibility” settings so we can select which pages they display on. See here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/#widget-visibility

When asking for help with a blog, please give us the exact URL of the blog, starting with http.

I guess I wasn’t clear before– I DO NOT want a static front page, which is what this link (http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/) tells me how to create. I want the page with the posts to be the front page, but I ALSO want the widgets to display in its sidebar AS IF it were a static front page. Somehow I got it to where I wanted it, so thanks anyway. And Raincoaster, please see first sentence of my original query– the url is right there.

Right so you read instructions to create a static front page and then think – ta da! I’ll undo what I did to restore the default which is all posts displaying on the front page of the blog.
    Settings > Reading
    Reading Settings
Front page displays __Your latest posts
    “save changes”

but I ALSO want the widgets to display in its sidebar AS IF it were a static front page.

So you return to the theme description http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/twentytwelve/ and proceed from there.

The 2012 theme for WordPress is a fully responsive theme that looks great on any device. Features include a front page template with its own widgets, an optional display font, styling for post formats on both index and single views, and an optional no-sidebar page template.

    Appearance > Widgets
    Main Sidebar
Appears on posts and pages except the optional Front Page template, which has its own widgets.

    First Front Page Widget Area
Appears when using the optional Front Page template with a page set as Static Front Page

    Second Front Page Widget Area
Appears when using the optional Front Page template with a page set as Static Front Page
