How do I manage 700 comments?

At the rate I’m receiving comments, 20/day, I’ll have 1400 before you do. In any case, you’ve inspired me to leave my comments page alone for now.

The features tellyworth mentioned are under wraps until all of the themes can be updated for the new comment options, which will need to wait until each theme is updated, reviewed, and tested including CSS updates unique to each theme. The comment updates should be available very soon though. Sorry to get your hopes up before those features are available!

Comment ebb and flow is really not linear on viral posts, though. I went through a phase of getting fifty a day, and that was when the post was well over a year old. I do believe that seeing all those comments inspires people to leave their mark more than a shorter comment thread would. They want to be a part of something big.
But the race is on!

I agree that over the years comments will be seen coming in waves. So far, in less than two months, mine have been pretty linear and featuring the same posters. I call it a “comments forum.” I’ve offered to bring the discussion to YahooGroups, but no one is interested. It’s up to 730 now. I left a comment on yours as you close in on 1400. Is that the highest number on WordPress?

There’s a rumour about another post somewhere with 5000 but I’ve never seen it. And thanks!
I think moving your comment thread would be a mistake at this point. People do drop off when you migrate, for no particular reason, and no matter how easy you make it to stay.
