how do i map a website done on iWeb in a mocha host domain with wordpress?
-
hi there! ii thought i was mapping an iWeb site i made on a mac and hosted a domain, riskier.com with wordpress and i thought my new site would be just like the iWeb site i built except that it would be mapped by wordpress. but i don’t see my website like i built it at all! did i lose my iWeb-created mocha hosted data? i bought the upgrade…

All mapping does is direct a domain name to an existing WordPress.com blog.
Since we are a blogging service and not a hosting provider, we cannot host your iWeb-created site.

I realize that WordPress is a blogging site. I followed the directions for mapping my domain I’m not sure the terms, so excuse me if I’m not saying things quite right. in any case I followed the directions for mapping my site which is hosted by mocha host. I designed it on iWeb. I was told by a friend at the Apple store I would just be mapping the old site to a new word press site and that it would look exactly the same. I know still have the domain name, but it’s a WordPress site that doesn’t look anything like the I website. Is that the way it’s supposed to work? I don’t mind designing a new website with WordPress themes and templates, I’m just wondering what happened to my old site that I built with iWeb. I hope that’s clear. thanks for your help!

Are you trying to map a domain that you purchased through iWeb to a WordPress.com site?
Or are you looking to self-hosted on your site MochaHost?
If you’re mapping a domain that you already own, you’ll need to follow this guide to use that custom domain with a WordPress.com-hosted site:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/Keep in mind that mapping a domain to a WordPress.com site means that your custom domain will simply cover the underlying .wordpress.com URL. This means that when visitors type in riskier.com, they’ll see rikspier.wordpress.com as the actual website.

Let me try this again. I apologize for not being very clear. I’m not exactly sure how these terms are used. I had a website designed on a Mac and through the use of iWeb. I bought a domain at mocha host. I pay a fee every month for mocha host to host my domain. I think that’s what it’s called. iWeb is going to be discontinued by Apple. so I need to find another way to have my domain continued. so I heard about WordPress. so I follow the directions on how to map the domain on WordPress. I bought the upgrade so that I could have a website that was just RikSpier.com. and no ads or anything like that. I was under the impression perhaps erroneously that my website would stay exactly the same. And just be transferred over or map I guess is the right term to Word press. I’m thinking that the domain is still hosted by mocha host it’s just that the site is now being taken care of by WordPress rather than iWeb. so when I went to check out the address on the web it opened up a WordPress page that looks nothing like my webpage. So I was unsure what to do. Do I just design a new website entirely using word presses templates? Or is there a way to have my old iWeb design website still up? I hope this is clear.

WordPress.com is a blogging service, not a hosting provider, so when you signup at WordPress.com you’ll be building a blog powered by WordPress, not building a site with iWeb.
You can start over and re-create most of your content here through WordPress, but you won’t be able to use iWeb.
