How do I map my blog to a sufolder /blog/ under my root domain

I currently have blog.mydomain.com. I am looking to migrate this to http://www.mydomain.com/blog/. I have purchased a second ‘custom domain’ today but I cannot figure out how to enable the subfolder and how to start redirecting my existing traffic.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey Rich, I do need a bit of clarification. You mention “migrating.” Are you intending to transfer your WordPress.com-hosted site to a self-hosted version on an outside server? Or do you intended to maintain your website here at WordPress.com, but map it to the Domain Name, mydomain.com/blog/?

On the question of enabling subdomain, you would do this with your domain registrar. Here is some more information about subdomains, and how to map them to WordPress.com-hosted sites:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/

Let me know if you have other questions. Thanks!

My intention is to maintain the blog at wordpress.com but simply update the path of our existing blog

I want to change the path from blog.mydomain.com to http://www.mydomain.com/blog/

I want to redirect all traffic going to blog.mydomain.com to the cooresponding http://www.mydomain.com/blog/ because the original url is ranked in search engines.

Again… both ARE the same blog in wordpress.com, just different paths.

The reason I want to do this is because we found that using a subdomain for your blog is not as good for SEO as using a folder.

I’ve read the support article but that talks about mapping a “subdomain”. This question is asking how to map a “Folder”. I cannot map my “www” subdomain to wordpress.org as that is our company website and is not a word press site.

Does that help explain what we are trying to do?

Hi again Rich, that does clarify your needs. Unfortunately, we do not currently allow mapping to subdirectories, such as example.com/blog/, only subdomains.

If you require that your blog be visited via example.com/blog/, you’ll have to migrate to a self-hosted site via WordPress.org.

If you’re not entirely sure of the differences, here’s a breakdown of WordPress.com and WordPress.org:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

You can transfer all the content of your WordPress.com site into your self-hosted version.

If you would like more information, this guide will step you through the process of moving your site to a WordPress.org instance:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

As we only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new site – including the importing of the file – must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:

If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com site to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if it’s right for you:

Please let me know if I can help further! Thanks.
